It’s great when moms can get together and have a little kid-free time getting a drink. After all, friendships are super important for our emotional well-being as moms. But there’s a time and a place for having some grown-up time. Two moms in Glendale, Arizona, are facing charges after leaving their young kids alone to go have some drinks. It would have been bad enough if they had left the kids at home by themselves, but these moms instead chose to leave their kids alone in their car while they drank. And now, they will be paying the consequences.
The Glendale Police Department recently shared body camera footage to social media from the incident. On March 8, 2025, around 11 p.m., multiple people called police after seeing a child running around alone in a parking lot. The witnesses looked around the car, which was in the Westgate Entertainment District, and found three more children inside.
Police arrived and began talking to the children while looking around local businesses trying to locate the parents. Forty minutes after the police arrived, two women walked up, claiming to be the children’s mothers, the video shows. One claimed she had been using the bathroom inside. Both mothers told police they had only been gone for 10 to 15 minutes.
“That’s a lie,” one of the officers said in the video footage. “We’ve been standing with these kids for over 45 minutes by themselves.”
According to the police department’s post on Facebook, both mothers smelled of alcohol and had slurred speech. They did each admit they had been drinking at a nearby bar. In their statement, police also revealed they had found a bag of marijuana in the glove box.
Both of the mothers were arrested, and the kids were taken to the hospital by firefighters to be checked out. Additional information such as names and ages of the women and ages of the children was not shared. No information has been released about charges or if the women have been given a jail sentence.
“We’re thankful to the Good Samaritans who stepped in and did the right thing,” Glendale Police shared in the post. “It’s a strong reminder: leaving kids alone –especially while under the influence – is not only irresponsible, it’s illegal.”
