Incredible Video Shows Dad Jumping Into Ocean To Save Toddler Being Swept Away

Our children are incredible blessings that often fill our hearts with a kind of love we never knew existed. They help us evolve into many things, not the least of which is being a fierce protector. And they most definitely keep us on our toes — particularly when they are young. We have to be ready to run at any given second if they need us, even if it means jumping into roaring ocean waters to save them.

An Australian father found himself battling strong waves when his young daughter was thrust into the water in North Wollongong, Australia. Incredible video footage shows the moment the young girl is swept off the seawall and into the water. Her father jumps right in to get her. The story has a happy ending, but the footage will leave you shook.

A bystander caught the incredible moment on video.

7News Adelaide posted the footage on Facebook, and it’s truly shocking. It appeared to be a vicious day at sea. The water crashes into the shore as people look on. However, what an adult would see as a dangerous situation doesn’t always compute with a child.

We soon see a little girl running — like little kids often do — and an onlooker remarks, “She’s going to get bowled over.” Seconds later, a wave crashes over the walkway and the child is thrust into the water.

Without missing a beat, her father jumps in after her to save his child.

The man never hesitated and jumped over the rails to save the little girl. Onlookers appear frightened as they gasp and moan at the terrifying ordeal. According to The Sun, a witness told 7News that Melinda Graham said she attempted to console the child’s unidentified mother, who was positively “hysterical.”

The father never let go.

Another witness, David Graham, told 7News he watched the father struggle in the water. Although he appeared exhausted, he wasn’t going to give up the fight to save his child, “he never let go of that kid,” Graham said. An elaborate rescue effort, which included several emergency crews and a helicopter, ensued to save the man and child, who both survived the ordeal.

No one was seriously injured.

A spokesperson for NSW Ambulance told Daily Mail Australia that the pair were taken to Wollongong Hospital and treated for water ingestion and small abrasions. They were both in stable condition. Even though the situation had a happy ending, some criticized the parents. On the 7News Facebook post, some made harsh remarks.

One person wrote: “Poor parenting. Shouldn’t have been there. They lucky she didn’t drown.”

Another person agreed, commenting: “That wasn’t a child that darted off he was cleary play running behind her. This is a stupid parent, and that’s all.”

Many more praised the dad for his quick thinking.

Other parents believe the father is a hero. He never questioned his own safety to save his child, and many were impressed.

This person understands kids: “The kid darted off ….they do crazy things! This poor dad was running after her. What a horrible situation.”

And so does this one: “Have you ppl not had a child dart off on you . You people great at talking I’m guessing ur all perfect parents so glad you are. So glad ur kids have always listened to you as young toddlers do NOT.”
