It appears Jones was driving recklessly before the crash occurred.

According to a criminal complaint obtained by the New York Post, a witness claimed Jones was driving erratically in the moments leading up to the fatal accident. He was reportedly driving fast and tried to cross a double yellow line to pass traffic.

Jones was driving east in a Nissan Sentra in Knox Country around 6 p.m. June 21 when he reportedly veered into the westbound lane and struck a Ford Expedition head-on, per court documents.

It was a grisly crash scene.

Both vehicles involved in the crash were destroyed, according to a Facebook post from the Knox County Rural Metro Fire Department. Rural Metro Fire posted grisly images from the scene that show two mangled vehicles and blood on the passenger seat of Jones’ car.

“Tonight, at approximately 600pm, Rural Metro Fire responded to a reported head on crash on Raccoon Valley Rd. When crews arrived, they found 2 vehicles had collided head on with a total of 5 patients, 2 with life-threatening injuries, and 3 with serious injuries," the post reads. "Several were trapped and had to be cut from the wreckage.”

The pregnant woman and her unborn baby were pronounced dead a short time later.

Per the Post, Casandra Jones and her baby boy were pronounced dead around 7:30 p.m. Friday. The next morning, Virginia Brooks, a passenger in the Expedition at the time of the crash, succumbed to her injuries. Jones appeared to have bruises on his face in his mugshot but was apparently not seriously injured in the accident.

The couple appeared to have a bright future.

The couple married on October 7, 2023, and their baby boy, JC, was due on August 3, 2024, according to Casandra Jones’ Facebook page. She shared images of their wedding and ultrasound photos, and the couple seemed thrilled.

The driver reportedly told police he is a regular drug user.

He was due in court for a preliminary hearing on June 26. According to Tennessee law, if convicted, he could spend up to 30 years in prison with no possibility of parole.
