What to Know
If there’s one thing that people on social media love, it’s a good scam story. That’s not quite what users have gotten with Jon and Cassie, a pair of Airbnb hosts and couple that shares their rental stories on TikTok, but the couple’s rules, habits, and complaints about guests have garnered them some serious hate.
Now, someone shared a video on TikTok with alleged rules that Cassie and Jon previously posted about their rental on Airbnb for prospective guests to follow. Among the rules? No playing the piano situated in the small home on the couple’s property. And, after an initial fee for checking out late, guests have to allegedly pay $50 for every 10 minutes they still haven’t checked out. We all know about hidden fees on Airbnb, but that alone is just wild.
Cassie and Jon’s Airbnb reputation is pretty much shot at this point.

Cassie and Jon first got flack when they began posting videos essentially roasting their guests. They commented on rules being broken (the guests moved an ottoman, breaking the “no moving furniture” rule). They also joked about the takeout left behind in the otherwise clean refrigerator. The hits kept coming, and Cassie and Jon seemed to see no end in sight to commenting on the guests who stayed at their Airbnb.
I think it’s safe to say they could have saved that kind of commentary for the group chat. But other TikTok users didn’t appreciate the couple’s candor when talking about how guests left their home and how the guests failed to follow instructions and house rules. In the TikTok, the user shares a screenshot of alleged house rules from the listing, which is rumored to have been taken down.
“Here’s the crazy fees that they charge,” the user says in the TikTok. “First, for unregistered guests, it’s $200 per night. Per guest. Granted, people shouldn’t be staying there if they don’t have permission, but 200 bucks a night seems excessive.”
He then goes on to read from and share his thoughts on more of the rules.
“Security cameras are in place. We will monitor the number of guests entering the home. All right, that’s a little creepy. No smoking or vaping within 20 feet of the patio. Okay, fire hazard, I get it. Smoking within 20 feet of the property will be a minimum $800 cleaning fee. $800 for what? Their late checkout fee, though, is probably the most ludicrous. So the base fee for late checkout is $200, and then it’s an additional $50 every 10 minutes. So checkout is at 10. If you check out at 10:30, it’s a $350 late fee. Checking out one hour late at 11 is $500, no exceptions.”
He pointed out the rule about the piano that states no kids under 13 are allowed to play it. That makes sense. But then, he adds, the other rules about the piano say no adult can play it at all unless they know how to. It seems a little pointless to have a whole piano in the home if the rules are going to be that strict about it.
Someone who commented on the TikTok joked, “Imagine hitting the wrong key while playing a song and a laser is deployed and kills you.”
Another person wrote, “They 100% have a hidden cam bc how tf do you know if a 5 yo is playing the piano?”
Some people still think the content is rage bait.
Most of Jon and Cassie’s posts are about their renters. Sometimes, they share how happy they are with the way guests leave the small house. Most of the time, though, they share everything that is wrong about the way the home is left. Mind you, the house often looks pretty clean, so the small infractions seem a little blown out of proportion to some users on TikTok.
When someone theorized on Reddit that the content might be rage bait, meant to drive traffic to the couple’s TikTok account, someone else pointed out, “If it was rage bait they’d keep the comments on. They would want the engagement.”
However, someone else commented, “It absolutely is. They’re terrible actors. Stop giving them attention.”
Cassie and Jon have continued to post on social media.

Despite the continued criticism, Cassie and Jon have continued to share videos of the aftermath of their guests’ stays at their Airbnb. In a video showing the rental before a couple was to arrive at the Airbnb, Jon says he thinks people have it wrong about them and their rental side hustle.
“As you may know my wife and I have been somewhat canceled over the last two weeks,” Jon says in the TikTok. “We believe it’s just because people are mis-perceiving the way that we’re coming across in our videos. Everyone that knows us knows that we’re actually not like that, but [it] doesn’t matter. Maybe three or four years ago this would have like actually destroyed me and my mental space, it probably would have made me depressed and put me in a really bad place. That’s not the case today and I’m really thankful because my identity is not in what people think of me. If you don’t like me that’s okay you can scroll you can leave a hate comment that’s fine doesn’t bother me.”
He then quotes the Bible, and says that he and Cassie have received “great reviews” from satisfied guests.
