Madeleine McCann Suspect Allegedly ‘Confessed’ to Cellmate That He Abducted Young Girl in Portugal

Christian Brueckner, the German man who is a suspect in 3-year-old Madeleine McCann’s disappearance in 2007, has allegedly confessed to kidnapping a young girl in Portugal. His former prison cellmate has shared that Brueckner told him all sorts of details about kidnapping a young girl and other truly heinous things.

The former cellmate is speaking out and sharing the information, which could be useful to law enforcement officials who could finally officially charge Brueckner with British toddler Madeleine McCann’s death.

Brueckner allegedly told his former cellmate a lot of details.

Laurentiu Codin told the court that while they shared a cell in prison, Brueckner confessed to abducting a child in Portugal, the Mirror reported.

“He told me that in Portugal, he had stolen there,” Codin said. “He was in a region where there are hotels and rich people live. He said there was somewhere with an open window, he told me this. He was looking for money.”

He continued, “He said he didn’t find any money but found a kid and took the child. He said that two hours later, there were police and dogs all over the place, so he then went away, out of the area.”

Apparently, Brueckner wasn't working alone.

“He told me that a person was with him, who he had had an argument with, allegedly it was his woman. He said he took the child in Portugal in his car, and in the time when the police and dogs were at the house, he drove away and he was gone,” Codin continued. “He asked me if the DNA from a child can be taken from bones under the ground.”

Additionally, Codin stated that Brueckner confessed to “abducting and raping young girls.”

It seems that Brueckner confided in his cellmate.

Codin told the court that Brueckner “confided” in him while they were in prison. “There was talk of a girl, I don’t know if what he said was true or not. He said that he had a bus and that he had taken her with it. He said he kept some of them, but not others, but he never said that he had killed them. We’re talking about girls, not boys. Not all at once, always one at a time. He told me about two. He said that he had taken someone, had sex with her but he didn’t kill her,” he said.

When the judge asked how old the girl was Codin admitted, “I don’t want to get it wrong, but it was very young, tiny. I mean young. Each time when we were together he spoke about it because he was convinced that I was a pedophile.”

There is still a lot of work to connect Brueckner to Madeleine's disappearance.

Brueckner is currently serving a seven-year prison term for raping an older American in Praia da Luz, Portugal. Right now, he is standing trial in Germany on unconnected sex crimes allegedly carried out in Portugal’s Algarve region between 2000 and 2017. He’s denying the latest charges and having any involvement in the McCann case.

According to Mirror, prosecutors appear no closer to proving he was behind Madeleine’s disappearance — despite claiming they have proof she is dead. If Brueckner is found not guilty, he could be out of prison by early 2025. A not guilty verdict would put pressure on the court to charge Brueckner over Madeleine’s disappearance.
