More details about the tragic and “unexplained” death of a 7-month-old baby have come to light. On Saturday, July 12, 2025, emergency services responded to a report that a baby boy had been found unresponsive at a campground area in Queensland, Australia. In a July 15 update, Queensland Police stated that someone has been charged in connection with the baby’s death.
Previously, it was reported that the baby’s family was staying at a campground area at Chatsworth Park. After the family spent the night there, the baby boy was found unresponsive in a lake. The baby’s mother pulled her baby out of the water herself, which was of course “very traumatic” for her. Other campers helped perform CPR while waiting for emergency services. The baby was taken to Gympie Hospital, but did not survive.

When the baby’s death was first reported, investigators called it “unexplained” and said they were working “to complete [the] full picture.” In the July 15 update, they stated that a 42-year-old man has been charged with manslaughter (domestic violence).
Not many details about the man have been shared by police as of July 16. However, police noted that the man was known to the child. The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), however, identified the man as the baby’s father, Jaye Lee Walton, 42. According to the news outlet, the man did not appear in court on July 16. He is expected to make a bail application on July 17 and remains in custody.
Before Walton was charged, police said the baby’s mother and father were “assisting police with enquiries.”
