Woman Who Was Found Stabbed 17 Times Wasn’t Suicidal, Friends Claim — Now Husband Is Charged

A man in Ohio has been arrested in connection with his wife’s death. Kyle Long lived in London, Ohio, with his wife, Rachel, and their children. He claimed that he walked in on her stabbing herself, and ultimately, was unable to stop her from taking her own life. Those who were closest to her, however, quickly squashed the idea that she would do such a thing. In fact, they claim she was excited about the future. Some time before she allegedly stabbed herself, Rachel Long told her husband that she wanted to separate from him. As a result, police had to look at everything he said through a different lens.

On March 4, 2026, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office announced via a news release that Kyle Long had been arrested after a four-month investigation. His arrest comes after the probable cause statement for the October 2025 murder of his wife.

Kyle Long called 911 on October 23, 2025, to report that his wife had died by suicide, according to an arrest warrant reviewed by People. He allegedly told police that shortly after she came home from work, she went into the master bathroom.

According to the warrant, he heard “what he thought was laughing followed by screaming.” When he went into the bathroom to see what was happening, he saw his wife stabbing herself in the face and neck.

Authorities who arrived on the scene found the woman lying in a pool of her blood and her clothes also were bloody, per People. The autopsy showed that she had “multiple sharp force injuries,” at least 17 of them.

During the investigation, authorities recovered texts between Rachel Long and her friend minutes before her death, the New York Post reported from the arrest warrant. In the conversation, she shows no indication that she’s suicidal. In fact, they were talking about the outfits they planned to wear to a concert the following night.

“It just didn’t make any sense, she has never been suicidal,” her best friend Brittany Mattox told WWL-TV. Mattox explained that Rachel Long planned to leave her husband.

“We knew that she was excited to leave,” Mattox shared. “She was making new relationships and friendships and looking forward to a new adventure as a solo single mom.”

According to the Post, when initially questioned, Kyle Long told police his wife had wished to separate. During a second round of questioning, he gave “conflicting” answers that didn’t match with his first responses.

Evidence inside of the home showed a “struggle between two individuals,” police noted in the warrant.

A 360-degree scan of the home demonstrated that he wouldn’t have been able to see his wife stabbing herself from where he was allegedly sitting. Additionally, he claimed Rachel Long used her right hand to stab herself. The autopsy, however, showed multiple “defensive” wounds on Rachel’s right arm and hand that would have been impossible to make if she was only using her right hand.

Mattox told WWL-TV that she hopes the arrest means authorities are one step closer to justice for her friend. “We are all having a hard time, ‘reliving the first day we found out Rachel had passed’ is kind of the feeling we got and just relieved that after so many months we have some answers and headed in the right direction,” she shared.

We had to make sure—all agencies involved—we got those reports back, and put all the evidence back, and that they all align,” Madison County Sheriff John Swaney told ABC 6 about why it took several months to arrest Kyle Long.

A $1.5 million bond was set for Kyle Long, ABC 6 reported. Prosecutors are preparing to present their case to a grand jury in the next few weeks.
