Mom Who Praised ‘Incredible’ Husband Amid Divorce Found Dead in Murder-Suicide Weeks Later

As a society, we are still largely ignorant when it comes to issues of intimate partner violence and the nature of these relationships. Even with the best intentions, people often minimize the dangers of living with and attempting to escape a violent partner. Far too many people offer empty platitudes such as suggesting to ā€œjust leave.ā€ This advice doesnā€™t consider the fact that women are often the most vulnerable when theyā€™ve decided to go.

That was the case for one wife and mother of two who thought her soon-to-be ex-husband was handling their divorce well. But days after she commended him, they were both found dead.

A relative asked police to perform a welfare check a few weeks later.

On December 27, a family member called police to report ā€œobvious signs of foul playā€ and ask authorities to perform a wellness check at the Sheffield home, People reported. When authorities arrived, they found Jennifer and Brandon dead in an apparent murder-suicide.

The Brandon Police Department believes Brandon Sheffield, 40, shot Jennifer Sheffield and turned the gun on himself. Authorities believe one of the coupleā€™s daughters was home at the time.

Jennifer Sheffield was a mother of two.

Police have not released any information on the childā€™s well-being at this time.

According to Jennifer Sheffield’s obituary, she was the mother of two children, Gracie and Kylie Sheffield. In lieu of flowers, the family asked people to send donations in support of the daughters. Thus far, via a GoFundMe account, they’ve raised more than $9,400 of the $15,000 goal.

'I'm a little scared right now,' Jennifer Sheffield said about providing for her children alone.
