There’s often something so exciting about being able to spend a full day at an amusement park with your family. A true sense of connection sets in when you do things together such as go on a super-tall roller coaster or fill your stomachs to the brim with nothing but funnel cakes and cotton candy. Tragically, for one little girl, a trip to a colorful amusement park turned into a day she would remember forever for all the wrong reasons. Her mother was fatally injured after riding down a giant slide at a tourist hot spot in Colombia. Despite wearing a helmet, when the woman began descending the slide at a rapid speed, she fell off the structure and received multiple serious injuries that were fatal.
Yuris Cristel Camila García Manrique, 28, was at Entre Flores, a popular place to visit for vacationers, in Chinácota, Colombia, on March 5, 2026, when she was fatally injured while riding down the giant multicolored slide, El Tiempo reported, per People.
In footage obtained by multiple outlets, People reported, Manrique is seen wearing protective headgear and sitting on a tire at the top of the slide waiting for her turn. Frighteningly enough, before she takes off down the slide, she asks an employee, “Is someone going to meet me?” and the worker allegedly tells her, “Yes, don’t be afraid.” Sadly, it turned out that she had every reason to be afraid.
According to The US Sun, Manrique was also told that there was a swimming pool at the bottom that “always catches people.” After she set off down the giant slide, Manrique was thrown off at the bend and fell approximately 15 feet, crashing to the ground, per the newspaper.
The fall caused the mom of one to receive several serious injuries to her brain, abdomen, and chest, and she died en route to Erasmo Meoz University Hospital in Cúcuta, El Tiempo reported, per People.
In a statement that’s been translated from an Instagram post, Entre Flores said it “deeply [regret] the incident that occurred yesterday, at our facilities. We extend our deepest condolences and most sincere sympathy to the family, friends, and loved ones of Garcia.”
One of her relatives has stated that no one from the amusement park who ran the ride that day has been in touch with them, per The US Sun. The family is also demanding a proper investigation, because their loved one “lost her life in an establishment where there was no security,” per the news outlet.
The giant slide was closed after investigations discovered the park did not have the proper license, according to the Sun. Entre Flores has stated that it is cooperating with police looking into the incident, per the news outlet.
Our hearts go out to the family as they try to navigate such a devastating event.
