A single mom of two who works as an Instacart delivery driver shared a story on TikTok that went viral a while back, receiving over 2 million likes and 191,000 comments. In the video, she explains that she saved a man’s life by listening to her gut and following her instincts, and reminds others to do the same. After hearing the full story, we're in awe.
“If you see something, say something,” Higgs begins the video. She then shared that the day before she had an Instacart order that was placed by a daughter for her elderly father who couldn’t shop for himself. “I do the order. I go the extra mile for this customer like I always do, but for some reason I went further,” Higgs explains. But, this was no regular delivery.
Sometimes you have to bend the rules.
Higgs goes on to explain that the instructions said to leave the items on the porch, where the woman's father would get them later. Higgs said that’s what she would normally do, but something was telling her she needed to help this man out. Higgs said as drivers, they are not supposed to go inside the house, but when the man came out, she used her judgment and offered to help put things away.
She explained that she messaged the daughter before marking the order as complete, and said, “It’s very unprofessional of me to say something … He’s not doing good. He’s sick. There’s a propane tank in there. I was in there maybe 5 feet and I got dizzy.”
The daughter was grateful.
“There’s gotta be a leak. He might not be doing good cause there’s a leak,” Higgs continued in the message to the customer. She confessed she didn’t know what else to say. The man’s daughter responded, saying that she would have her son come out and look at it and she changed her tip from $14 to $100, according to Higgs' TikTok video.

Higgs received a comment from the daughter the next day saying, “Thank you so much, once my son went to check on my dad it turned out it was definitely leaking, you definitely saved my dad and my younger son’s life!!” Higgs was very emotional when she shared a screenshot of the daughter's review in her TikTok video.
Higgs ended her video saying, “That being said, I’m just an Instacart worker but if you see something, say something and I did and I’m so happy I did and I’m so happy he can live a better life.”
