Vanessa Chendemi reportedly worried about her 15-year-old son’s behavior and the time he spent on his computer. Vanessa Chendemi, 36, spoke with her mother, Concetta Chendemi, 56, who allegedly suggested the mother take the computer away from the teen. An argument erupted that ended with a dead grandmother, a seriously injured mother, and a 15-year-old boy charged with murder.
Per CBS News, the argument began on April 7, 2025, inside a home on Long Island, New York. According to court documents the network obtained, Vanessa Chendemi told police her son, Indigo Angulo, was “acting out as of late, barricading himself in his room.” She reportedly threatened to take his computer away when Concetta Chendemi said, “Just take it.” This apparently enraged Angulo, who allegedly went on a rampage, stabbing his mother and grandmother.
Vanessa Chendemi told investigators she played dead as the boy continued to stab her mother to death. She ultimately ran outside asking for help. Per ABC 7, she flagged down a motorist who let her get into their car and called 911 for help. Vanessa Chendemi has stab wounds to her face and neck, but doctors expect her to survive.
Angulo allegedly fled the scene, and police located him several blocks from his home. They arrested him, and prosecutors charged Angulo with murder and attempted murder.
Of course, the news of the alleged crimes shocked neighbors.
One told the New York Post of Concetta Chendemi, “She was a great woman — worked hard, worked two jobs. I’d catch her in-between and say ‘hey, how are you doing, how’s work?’ and she’d say ‘it’s killing me.'”
The neighbor claimed Concetta Chendemi lived in the home for three years. They condemned Argulo’s alleged actions. “How do you do that to somebody who breaks their [expletive] to support you, who works two jobs to make ends meet so you have a place to stay, food to eat, and this is how you thank them?” the neighbor said.
Dominic Iadanza, who worked with Concetta Chendemi at a bakery, told the New York Post, “She was really nice, a really kindhearted person. She always helped me clean the ovens and trays. I feel really bad.”
Later, Angulo appeared in a white jumpsuit in court on April 8, and reportedly hung his head as prosecutors discussed his alleged actions.
Following the hearing, defense attorney Peter Mayer addressed the media and said, “The only thing I’m going to say, this is a 15-year-old child here and he is presumed innocent, we have a presumption of innocence in America that still holds strong so I want everybody to remember that.” He continued, “Other than that, I have no comment right now.” Additionally, Mayer said Angulo will likely face charges as an adult.
