Mom Prompted Silver Alert When She Walked Off With Baby – Now Her One-Month-Old Is Dead

Connecticut State Police issued a Silver Alert on June 8, 2025, desperate to find a missing mother and her newborn son. Sadie Fleming, 27, reportedly took off with her 1-month-old son, Hudson, on foot in the town of Washington. Witnesses last saw the pair sometime between midnight and 7 a.m. Police responded to Fleming’s home near Brinsmade Road and began the search. Several hours later, investigators made a heartbreaking discovery.

Tragically, police found Fleming and Hudson with serious injuries in a wooded area near Blackville Road. Per WTNH, first responders took the mother and son to an area hospital for treatment. Hudson succumbed to his injuries, but his mother survived. Authorities have not released details about what happened to Fleming and her baby but noted no further threat to the public exists.

The news has shocked the small town and those who knew Fleming.

“When I came home, there were four cop cars here, and I’ve never seen them here,” neighbor Beth Bonnabeau told WTNH. “Maybe they’ve been in here doing a turnaround, but that’s about it mostly.”

Betsy O’Neill taught in Washington for nearly 40 years. She recalls Fleming as a student and told WTNH she couldn’t believe the news.

“Just floored,” O’Neill said. “She was really a good kid, and teachers really like her.”

Washington First Selectman Jim Brinton, who serves the town in a capacity similar to a mayor, told WFSB the Fleming family has lived in the town for generations.

“It’s tragic whenever wherever something like this happens, but in a small town, rural community, everybody knows everybody, so everybody involved knows and is touched by it. It’s impacted every corner of our community,” Brinton said, per the news outlet.

Although police have released very few details about the case, the Connecticut General Assembly website offers some insight into what a Silver Alert means.

“‘Silver Alert’ or ‘Senior Alert’ programs help identify and locate missing seniors with cognitive impairments” or “mentally impaired adults at least 18 years old,” the website explains. “Modeled after the federal Amber Alert system for abducted children, Silver Alert programs create an emergency notification system in which law enforcement agencies broadcast local, regional, or statewide public alerts for missing seniors and other individuals with cognitive impairments, including Alzheimer’s disease. Broadcasts may be issued using radio, television, and electronic highway signs.”

Anyone with information about the case should call Connecticut State Police at 860-626-7900. The investigation is ongoing.
