Agustya Hegishte was just 4 years old when he died on June 10, 2025. As he slept in his bed in Maidenhead, England, his 37-year-old mother, Akanksha Adivarekar, crawled in beside him. She stabbed the little boy in the neck and then attempted suicide by drinking bleach. Emergency responders arrived and helped save the mother’s life. Adivarekar wound up at a hospital where doctors performed a life-saving surgery. When she woke up, the nightmare remained. Her son was gone, and she awaited her fate.
Per a news release from Thames Valley Police, officers responded to a call in Dunholme End around 6:30 p.m. on June 10. The police found Agustya dead at the scene. They immediately launched an investigation and arrested Adivarekar. They officially charged her with murder on June 18.
According to People, Adivarekar called herself a “penfluencer” and worked as a medical consultant before the brutal killing. She appeared in court on December 3 and pleaded guilty to manslaughter by diminished responsibility, per police.
The court sentenced Adivarekar to a hospital order with restrictions under the Mental Health Act at Reading Crown Court. Following the sentencing, senior investigating officer Detective Inspector Rob Underhill of the Major Crime Unit shared condolences with the victim’s loved ones.
“First and foremost, our thoughts remain with Agustya’s family following what has been a truly devastating loss,” he said in the news release. “Today’s sentencing brings a complex and challenging investigation to its conclusion and reflects the dedication of our officers and staff in establishing the full circumstances of that day. We hope this outcome provides the family with some sense of closure and the space and privacy they need to grieve.”
What a devastating loss for the family and the mother. She clearly had some personal demons that caused her to commit such a horrid act against her own child. We hope she receives proper care for her mental health.
