Mother-in-Law Wears an Actual Wedding Dress to Her Son’s Wedding

The mother of the groom typically has one of two jobs to be the perfect future mother-in-law at a wedding. And one of those jobs, which should really go without saying, is to not wear white. Or a wedding dress. OK, those might not be official jobs for the mother-in-law, but apparently, they need to be, because for one bride on TikTok, Sage Sarkis, her groom’s mother missed the mark completely on what she wore to the ceremony and reception.

In Sage’s video, which is a collection of photos, you can see her new husband’s mom walk with him down the aisle looking like a bride herself. There is also a shot of the three of them together and, once again, you really see how much of a wedding dress the mother-in-law is wearing. It should go without saying that no one should wear white, cream, or any variation of those shades to a wedding, especially where their son is getting married, but I guess some of these hashtag boy moms need it spelled out for them more clearly.

The bride clearly explained what to wear and what not to wear to her mother-in-law.

In her video, Sage shares multiple photos of the dress in its original online listing and photos of her mother-in-law wearing the dress. And in any other color, it would be totally fine. But she chose to order the dress and wear it in white. Not cream, not off-white, but actual white. You can’t convince me (or the internet, for that matter), that this move was OK in any way.

“This actually makes me so sad,” one user commented on the TikTok. “She’s literally saying she doesn’t respect you. It’s much deeper than just a dress. I’m really sorry.”

Another person wrote, “Purposely wearing what the bride doesn’t want you to wear is so disrespectful. I’m really sorry this happened to you and anyone else that can relate.”

A man even commented on the video with, “Idk but I would tell my mother she’s not allowed in. I don’t tolerate disrespect of any kind towards my wife, much less on her special day.”

The thing is, though, even if some people think this was an innocent mistake, Sage’s mother-in-law was specifically told which colors were off-limits. Sage shared a screenshot of text messages between her and her husband’s mom wherein Sage told her outright that the colors to avoid included white and ivory.

“I would send her the photo with it orange and only post pictures with it orange,” someone commented, in reference to an edited photo of the mother-in-law in her dress. “I am PETTY.”

Another person wrote, “This is as bad as you think it is, maybe worse. I’m on team no contact.”

The dress comes in other colors too.

Someone pointed out in the comments that the mother-in-law could have absolutely chosen the same dress, but in a different color. So for some, this move seemed calculated and reminiscent of the movie Monster-in-Law. Instead, though, it’s Sage’s real life, and it actually happened to her on a pretty monumental day.

Just for reference, the same dress comes in colors like navy and grey which are both on Sage’s approved colors list. Another approved color is silver, and the dress does have silver accents, so maybe that’s where the mother-in-law thought she went right with her choice? Still…the main color of the dress is clearly white.

Everyone is on the bride’s side about the dress.

After Sage posted her video with her wedding photos and showed her mother-in-law’s dress of choice, the internet rallied behind her. Does it really matter now, well after the wedding? Maybe not. But it might help give Sage peace of mind to see users’ edited photos of her mother-in-law in a clown costume, glittery pink pants, or edited out of the photos completely.
