NY Transportation Worker Arrives at Hit-and-Run Death Scene & Finds Out Victim Is His Son

A New York State Department of Transportation employee arrived at the scene of an accident to help assist with road closures on February 17, 2024. Cory Beschorner knew there was an accident in which a pedestrian had been struck, but he had no idea the victim was his son. Tyler Beschorner, 29, was reportedly walking along Route 363 in Binghamton when a driver killed him in a hit-and-run accident.

Cory Beschorner told WBNG that he and other responders at the scene were remarking about how someone’s life was about to change in the worst way. He was not prepared for that life to be his.

Tyler Beschorner had been with friends earlier in the evening.

He went to a party at a friend’s house and then went downtown with his cousin, according to WBNG. At some point, the pair parted ways, and Tyler Beschorner began his walk down Route 363. Someone discovered his body around 2 a.m., and police called for backup to help secure the scene. That is when his father arrived.

Corey Beschorner thought it was just a typical night on the job.

He had no idea when he was blocking off the road to keep first responders safe that his son was dead.

“This is one of our worst nightmares,” he told WBNG. “When we were setting up we were saying somebody’s world is going to be turned upside down tonight. I didn’t know it was mine or my family’s.”

The father is heartbroken.

Corey Beschorner has been active on social media in the weeks following his son's death, sharing his grief and memories of his son. He said life will never be the same.

“This seems to be the time each morning where my grief takes hold and I can feel without the noise. I know this is part of the process I just hate it. My mind is a battlefield flooded with such sadness and searching to make sense of something that truly makes no sense. My child was larger than life… he somehow managed to do everything backwards…," he wrote.

"He played hard and worked only hard to play harder… there was NO mundane with him and he refused to accept the average life…. He did what he loved and he made his life worth living. It was an adventure at every turn,” he added.

Tyler Beschorner was beloved by many.

He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt, according to a GoFundMe account started by friend Brendon Gitchell. He leaves behind a 7-year-old son whose loved ones said meant everything to him.

“Jayden Beshorner, his son was the center of his world and Tyler was the center of his. Tyler was the most genuine and selfless person I have ever met," the fundraising page reads. "He was loved by so many people throughout his life and truly knew how to brighten the mood in any room he walked into. He had a deep love for his friends and family. His adventurous personality captivated just about everyone he met throughout the years.”

The fundraiser has brought in more than $13,000 of an original goal of $10,000 thus far.

Police are asking for help.

Investigators believe the accident was a hit-and-run, and there is no suspect at this point. Binghamton Police Detective Captain Cory Minor told WBNG that anyone with information should call the police at 607-772-7080.

“Community members should be mindful that they may have heard something, they may have heard someone talking about this,” Minor said, “not realizing what they heard and the importance of it.”
