A Georgia family is rejecting the idea that twin brothers died in a murder-suicide. Despite assertions from the police, they claim to know the young men too well to believe such things. The brothers, Qaadir and Naazir Lewis, reportedly loved each other too much to ever kill each other and now, their family is demanding that police dig deeper into how the brothers died. They say there is no way that they will believe the men killed each other. Thankfully for the family, police are still investigating what could have happened to the young men.
The 19-year-old twins were found dead on the morning of Saturday, March 8, 2025, by a hiker at the summit of Bell Mountain in Hiawassee, Georgia, WXIA reported. According to a statement released by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Qaadir and Naazir Lewis had gunshot wounds on their bodies. Additionally, “the preliminary investigation reveals the deaths to be a murder-suicide.”
But the family is rejecting police findings. “We knew right away that wasn’t true,” their uncle, Rahim Brawner, told WXIA.
“They’re very protective of each other. They love each other,” he said. “They’re like inseparable. I couldn’t imagine them hurting each other because I’ve never seen them get into a fistfight before.”
The family explained that the twins had been planning a trip to Boston. They were supposed to leave at 7 a.m. Friday morning, but they never made it. According to the family, their plane tickets were still in their wallets when they were found. Still, the family has a lot of questions about how the twins even ended up on the mountain in the first place.
Apparently, the twins knew nothing about the mountains. While the mountains, which are close to the North Carolina border, are popular with hikers and tourists, they had allegedly never been there before.
“How did they end up out in the mountains? They don’t hike out there, they’ve never been out there,” Rahim Brawner said. He claimed the young men “don’t know anything about Hiawassee, Georgia. They never even heard of Bell Mountain, so how did they end up right there?”
“We want answers, we want to know exactly what happened to the twins,” their aunt, Samira Brawner, demanded.
Another aunt, Yasmine Brawner, also doesn’t believe her nephews killed each other. “They had a huge support system. We know them. They wouldn’t do anything like this. To say they did this to each other? No. Something happened in those mountains, and we want answers.”
According to the GBI, the autopsies are complete. However, they have yet to release the medical examiner’s ruling due to needing more forensic testing.
In the meantime, the family has set up a GoFundMe to cover funeral costs. “In recents new reports, it was claimed that they took their own lives. My nephews wouldn’t do this!” the fundraiser reads. “They came from a family of love, and twins wanted so much for their future, they had dreams of starting their very own clothing line.”
“Something happened at Bell mountain that ended the lives of 19 year old Qaadir and Naazir, which needs to be further investigated,” they said.
