Mom Accused of Beating Her 14-Year-Old Son to Death Because He Didn’t Do His Chores

Police have arrested a Seattle mom following a horrific beating inside a home in the Beacon Hill neighborhood. The unnamed mother, 29, reportedly became angry with her 14-year-old son after he didn’t complete his chores. She allegedly took her anger out on the teen and beat him for an hour until his body went limp.

Sadly, the teen died of injuries sustained during the attack, and his mother could now face murder charges.

According to court documents obtained by KOMO, the mother reportedly called 911 on January 30, 2025, after her son became unresponsive. When police arrived, they spoke to the mother about what happened in the home.

“[Mother] stated she was spanking him with an extension cord, and it went too far,” police wrote in the report, according to the news outlet. “[Mother] stated that [son] did not complete his chores, and she was angry. [Mother] told him it was ‘butt cutting time.’ [Mother] ordered [son] to remove his clothing and used an extension cord to strike him.”

The mother allegedly shoved her son against a wall, where he hit his head, and he reportedly became limp. The beating allegedly lasted an hour before the teenager was unresponsive, and his mother called 911. Per the Seattle Times, she waited five minutes before making the fateful call.

The public defender assigned to the case attempted to sway a judge for leniency.

“I know of the seriousness of these facts, but this also involves a mother losing her son and significant trauma she is experiencing from that,” attorney Zelena Jones said to Judge Jill Klinge in court, according to KOMO.

“I’d also argue there would be additional trauma on top of that if she is incarcerated. Given her limited history, the fact it appears she cooperated with law enforcement, and the fact that she has very limited resources, she should be released.”

Per the Seattle Times, the mother did have a prior criminal history. She was found guilty of third-degree assault in South Carolina in 2019. And in 2021, her sister accused the mother of threatening her.

According to a police report, the Times noted, the sister told investigators, “She is a very unfit mother and needs anger management. She is always yelling and screaming at her kids. They eat only (2 or 3) times per day.”

Police arrested her on suspicion of murder, but she has yet to face formal charges. Klinge remanded the mother to jail on a $3 million bail.
