We often hear that you never know what’s going on behind closed doors. It may seem a bit cliché, but as police in Western Australia uncovered, it’s true. In 2024, investigators began to look into Jason William Forbes after intercepting a childlike sex doll someone attempted to mail him. During the investigation, police discovered even more disturbing information about Forbes. This led to an arrest and jail sentence of more than seven years, but more than anything, it kept children safe from a depraved monster.
The Western Australia Police Force confirmed 37-year-old Forbes’ arrest during a recent news conference. Sex Crime Division Detective Acting Superintendent Eamon Flanagan said Forbes had plans in place to harm a child.
“It was clear that there was serious and imminent risk if there had been any delay in this investigation,” he explained.
According to court documents obtained by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Forbes had childlike sex dolls, children’s underwear, and diapers at his home. He also had a police badge with apparent plans to impersonate an officer to lure a child into his home. Forbes fitted his car’s windows with Perspex sheets, making it impossible to see inside. He’d also created a soundproof loft in his home to carry out his planned nefarious deeds.
As if things couldn’t get worse, per ABC, Forbes had more than 77,000 child sex abuse images on his computer. His search history included directions for soundproofing and creating a panic room. He created what investigators called a “mind map” on the mirror in his bedroom, plotting out an abduction.
“There was extensive planning which demonstrated a real intention to undertake these activities,” Flanagan said. “[W]ithout the decisive action, something terrible could have happened in this case.”
ABF Inspector David Williamson said during the news conference that it took about 10 days from the time police intercepted the doll to confront Forbes.
“Importing child-like sex dolls is not a victimless crime, research suggests that it can be an escalation point to contact offending and other offences involving children,” he said. “Our border targeting teams are quite adept and skilled at looking at the subtle indicators that child-like sex dolls are contained in consignments.”
A judge sentenced Forbes to seven years and five months in prison. He could be eligible for parole in 2029, ABC reported. Many people lauded authorities for their hard work in apprehending Forbes.
“Great work WA police, but he should never see the light of day again!!! He is sick and will offend if let out!” someone shared on Facebook.
“Not long enough! Sorry you guys put in such a mammoth effort to keep our communities safe and the judges let us all down,” another person commented. “Great respect for all of our officers two legged and four.”
With such an elaborate plan, it seems Forbes would certainly be the type to try this again. He should never leave a prison cell. Ever.
