Debora was reportedly on her way to gymnastics.

According to the Mirror, Debora and some friends were headed to gymnastics when they gathered at a home in Alta Verapaz to practice and take pictures. Debora and her friends were reportedly on the terrace of a two-story building taking photos when she stepped back onto the cable. What happened next was horrific.

The teenager was killed instantly.

The voltage caused her body to jolt, and the force of the electrical current reportedly decapitated Debora. Her body fell to the ground, and as she lay lifeless there, a group of bystanders allegedly surrounded her remains while waiting for paramedics to arrive.

Loved ones shared in her family’s sorrow.

After her mother posted on Facebook, loved ones commented with condolences and prayers. The post was in Spanish, but responses were translated to English.

Someone wrote, "Words fall short of this situation that came to take an unexpected turn in your life Andrea XI Artola I know that right now nothing will console you, for it is an unexplainable pain, but you must be sure that your beautiful princess already rests and even though it hurts God is his timing is perfect, even making us feel the greatest pain, you will assimilate it over time. Power lines can be dangerous.

The Electric Safety Foundation warns people to stay away from power lines. It is important to note that contact with a power line isn't the only way to be hurt.

"You do not have to touch a power line to be in danger. High-voltage electricity can jump to anyone who gets too close. Stay at least 10 feet away from power lines and their connections," the organization reports.
