Teen Falls to His Death From Same Power Pole as Another Boy Who Died 18 Years Earlier

Scott Nye was 15 years old when he fell to his death from a power pole in Fruit Heights, Utah, in October 2007. The community mourned the teenager’s death for years, never expecting an eerily similar story 18 years later. On November 10, 2025, an unidentified 16-year-old boy fell 60 feet to his death from the same pole. It’s a sobering reminder that no one should ever play or climb near power lines.

Around 9:15 p.m. Monday evening, dispatchers received a 911 call reporting a fall from a Rocky Mountain Power pole near 1800 East and 696 South, KSL reported. When deputies arrived, they reportedly found the teenager with traumatic injuries, including severe burns. Emergency crews rushed the teen to a hospital, but Davis County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Stephanie Dinsmore confirmed he died. Authorities will not release the teenager’s name.

“It sounds like it was a group of individuals, a group of teenagers, who came out last night to take in the views, when one of the individuals climbed the tower,” Dinsmore said, per the outlet.

The teenager attended Layton High School, part of the Davis County School District. Officials confirmed his enrollment.

“It is with heavy hearts we inform you that one of our Layton High School students died in a tragic accident last night. We are deeply saddened by the death and express our condolences to the family and friends,” Principal Brock Jackman shared in a release obtained by KSL.

The teen’s friend, Tristen Hann, told ABC 4 that they loved spending time together.

“He was an amazing kid. He was funny, kind, exciting, happy. It was really fun to be around him,” Hann said.

“You would never expect it to happen, until it does happen,” friend Addy Day said.

In an eerie coincidence, the nickname “Sunshine” was one the two victims shared. It’s listed on a memorial that honors Nye at the power line, and the football coach used it for the latest victim.

Nye’s parents shared a statement with ABC 4 regarding the recent tragic death.

“Our son was electrocuted in a very similar accident in 2007. Our hearts go out to this boy’s family and to his friends that were with him. Please know of our love, understanding and concern. It truly was an accident and it’s heartbreaking,” the family shared.

Kids just don’t understand the dangers of things like climbing a power pole. Teenagers often think they’re invincible, and it takes a tragedy like this to bring them back to reality. Hopefully, the Nye family can help this second victim’s loved ones get through this extremely difficult time.
