A father was arrested following the death of a teen girl. The man had recently moved his family to Pakistan after living in the United States for decades. While the details are still emerging about the killing, people are suggesting that the father killed his daughter because he had concerns about her behavior.
According to some, the father took issue with the content the teen girl was posting on TikTok. The girl had grown up in the US, which could be part of the issue the father had with her actions. Some believe that her death may have been an “honor killing.”

The father, Anwar ul-Haq, was arrested after admitting he shot and killed his 15-year-old daughter, multiple outlets reported. Initially, he told police that an unknown man was the one who shot the teen girl, Hira, but reportedly later confessed.
Haq is a US citizen, and Hira was born in the US. The family recently moved back to the city of Quetta, which is in the Balochistan province. Pakistan is a predominately Muslim country, and largely conservative.

Police official Babar Baloch spoke about the killing, saying Haq told him he found that his daughter was posting “objectionable” content on TikTok, The Guardian reported. This began when they were still living in the US. He told police that she didn’t stop posting the content when they moved to Pakistan.
“Our investigation so far has found that the family had an objection to her dressing, lifestyle, and social gathering,” police investigator Zohaib Mohsin said in a statement The Guardian published. “We have her phone. It is locked,” he told Reuters. “We are probing all aspects, including honour killing.”

Police have charged Haq with murder. They have also arrested the man’s brother-in-law in connection to the killing.
According to the BBC, if it is decided that the teen girl died in an “honor killing” and the father is found guilty, he could face a mandatory life sentence.
More than 54 million people use TikTok in Pakistan, which has a population of 241 million. In recent years, the government has blocked the app multiple times due to what it sees as content moderation issues. According to multiple outlets, Islamabad will take issue with what it calls “obscene content” posted on the app.
