Teen Who Allegedly Killed Uber Driver To ‘Let Off Some Steam’ Confesses to 3 Other Murders

Sheliky Sanchez, a New Mexico teen who allegedly killed Uber driver Joseph Andrus to “let off some steam,” has evidently admitted to killing three other people, according to police. On August 7, 2025, Sanchez, 18, allegedly asked his girlfriend to order an Uber. Andrus picked him up, but when they arrived at the random location Sanchez chose, he allegedly ordered the driver out of the car and shot him multiple times, according to the Albuquerque Police Department.

Sanchez then drove back home, where police were able to trace the car with the help of a ShotSpotter device and apprehend him after finding Andrus’ body, the Albuquerque Journal reported.

Although Sanchez initially lied, claiming that Andrus’ car was his, he ultimately told police he shot the Uber driver because he was stressed and needed to “let off some steam,” per the Journal.

During an August 14 hearing, it was revealed that Sanchez has admitted to killing three other people, calling them “beautiful,” KOB reported.

“He also credibly confessed to three additional prior homicides,” the defense said. “For which he had been involved and not yet been charged. One of which he said he shot and killed somebody while he was still in middle school.”

“The defendant was threatening a child with a firearm, a 7-year-old, while he was drinking. The defendant was drinking and allegedly pressed the barrel of the gun against the forehead of the 7-year-old and later threatened the child not to tell anyone,” the defense detailed, per KOB.

Previously, Sanchez was charged with murder, armed robbery, and tampering with evidence. He now faces charges in a different case for threatening the 7-year-old with a firearm. Meanwhile, police are investigating the claims that he killed three other people.

“This is the top five of the worst cases I have seen in terms of what is alleged to have happened,” the judge said during the hearing. “Services, GPS monitoring, is not going to protect the public at this point.” Sanchez is being held without bond as he awaits trial.
