A lot of us are different versions of ourselves on vacation. We’re uninhibited, more adventurous, and even more likely to take risks, participating in activities we might not at home. One 19-year-old Serbian girl tried to do something different during her vacation in Montenegro. She tried parasailing.
What should have been a thrilling tourist activity turned tragic when the teen allegedly panicked once she was gliding in the air. Video shows her removing the harness and life vest holding her safely in the parasail. Some believe she suffered a panic attack. But her family doesn’t agree.
Footage captured Radonić removing her harness.
When Tijana Radonić unbuckled herself, she plummeted 164 feet (50 meters) into the Adriatic Sea, A2 News reported. The moments before the fall were captured by surveillance cameras. The footage shows Radonić removing her vest and her straps. Once she was no longer restrained, she began holding onto the flying device. Seconds later, she fell.
Witnesses near the scene heard the teenager shouting “Put me down!” and “Help!” before she hit the water. It’s not clear why Radonić decided to unbuckle herself. Authorities don’t know how long she was in the air before she fell.
Witnesses say she was calm and enthusiastic before the ride.
People who saw Radonić before the incident said she was filming a commercial for a travel agency. Witnesses described her as calm and enthusiastic. A rep for the parasailing company approached Radonić on the beach to offer her a free ride. “We are all in shock after the accident that happened … I do not know exactly what happened,” Mirko Krdzic, the owner of the company, told media outlet Kuirr. “She did not show any fear of flying. She underwent training after which the tragedy followed.”
The investigation continues.
Krdzic claims that technical inspections of all the equipment are underway. Additionally, the results of the autopsy have yet to be released. While many believe Radonić might have suffered a panic attack while parasailing, her family does not believe that was the case. Authorities are still investigating, the New York Post reported.
