A Texas community is mourning the loss of two 3-year-old twin girls who drowned in a swimming pool in an apartment complex. On August 28, the Sherman Police Department responded to a report of unconscious children found in a swimming pool.

A witness believes the tragic incident serves as a reminder to always keep an eye on your children and know where they are at all times. It's still under investigation.

A maintenance worker found the girls unconscious in a swimming pool at Ridgeview Apartments, CBS News reported. According to the news outlet, the maintenance worker performed CPR on the twins. Emergency Medical Services and police responded, and "EMS began life saving measures" upon arrival, per a news release from the police department.

Unfortunately, the girls did not survive.

Sherman Police Department Administrative Lieutenant Kevin Garbacik told News 12 that the twins were already under water when they were found. Although the person "was able to pull them out and start recovery efforts with them" and they were later taken to the hospital, the girls did not survive.

A witness recalled everyone trying to save the twin girls.

A witness told News 12 that she happened to see "the commotion" when she was leaving their apartment. Carrie Curry recalled seeing an ambulance, fire trucks, and a police car. Curry noticed everyone around the apartment complex pool and observed a maintenance worker standing nearby "soaking wet."

The witness reminded parents to keep an eye on their children at all times.

Speaking to Nes 12, Curry called it "a sad moment" and added a warning. "Take care of your babies," she reminded other parents.

"Parents, if you have children and keep your eye on your children, always know where they are, whether they’re in the house or outside," Curry said. "Take care of your babies. They’re our future."

The girls' deaths are still under investigation.

No names have been released at this time. Police noted that the Sherman Police Criminal Investigation Division is investigating the incident. It's not yet clear how the twins were able to get into the pool or where their parents were at the time.
