Uncle Charged With Killing His 6-Year-Old Niece & Hiding Her Body in Concrete for Almost 20 Years

A man in Japan is facing nearly a decade in prison for killing his niece. Noriyuki Iimori was a young man when he became the sole caregiver for the young girl after her mother abandoned her. He was unprepared to raise a child, and allegedly the stress eventually got to him. No matter what the circumstances were surrounding the way he came to care for the girl, she did not deserve the brutal attack he gave her. And then he chose to hide her body for years, going so far as to move it to multiple locations. Eventually, her body was found, and now he is going to be held responsible for the ways he failed the child.

It took decades before his crime was discovered.

Iimori was sentenced to eight years in prison on March 13, 2026, Japanese outlet The Asahi Shimbun reported. The now 42-year-old man was convicted of killing his niece Reina Iwamoto, nearly 20 years ago when she was approximately 6 years old.

He was arrested in March 2025 on suspicion of killing the girl, Yomiuri Shimbun reported, per The Japan News. A metal case filled with concrete was found dumped in Yao in Osaka Prefecture. The girl’s body was inside.

In November 2024, Iimori carted the container from a row house in Yao to a different house in the same city.

According to the indictment, Iimori punched the girl in the face and kicked her in the back and waist, which caused traumatic shock. An autopsy revealed that strong force was applied to her abdomen, resulting in the internal bleeding that led to her death. She was killed sometime between December 2006 and January 2007.

The girl had a difficult upbringing that ended tragically.

Iimori began raising Reina Iwamoto in 2006. Her mother is his older half-sister, who had left the family and returned when he was 19. After they got back in contact with each other, the sister lived with their father and grandmother in 2002. She brought along Reina, who was about 2 years old at the time.

He recalled the girl being “shy and timid around strangers, and would hide behind her mother” but said he “thought she was cute.” Even though he didn’t live with the family at the time, he visited his niece frequently.

Sadly, the girl was left behind when her mother began living and working at an adult entertainment establishment to repay her debts. Iimori’s father and grandmother were expected to care for Reina, but abuse was suspected by her grandfather, according to The Asahi Shimbun. Then the old woman developed dementia. The only person left to care for her was Iimori.

Iimori had a good relationship with his niece, but he was likely a reluctant full-time caregiver.

Prosecutors argued that Iimori knew his niece had been subjected to abuse and neglect. As one of the trusted adults in her life, he “was in a position where he should have raised her responsibly.”

His defense, however, argued that he had no prior parenting experience. Because he was forced to raise a child that wasn’t his, he became stressed, his lawyers claimed. They said the killing “occurred as a result of him trying his best, to his limit, with the responsibility of raising a child that he was not obligated to perform,” The Asahi Shimbun reported.

The prosecution called his brutal attack on the girl “a fierce assault driven by anger,” saying he became furious when she wouldn’t listen to him. And to make things worse, he dumped her body into a container. “Reina’s dignity was violated even after her death,” the prosecution said.
