10 Best Summer Vacation Destinations for Families With Teens

With summer right around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about those summer vacation destinations. If you have teens, then you are probably aware that they can be hard to impress and entertain. In their eyes, nothing is cool enough or “it’s boring” — you know the drill. That said, there are lots of vacation destinations out there that are both family-friendly and teen approved. 

Ahead, we’ve come up with a list of 10 of the best summer vacation destinations for families with teens, whether you’re looking for a relaxed beach destination or a more adventurous itinerary. 

Aruba

Beach vacations are a hot spot for families and there’s no better place to catch some sun than Aruba. Teens love adventure and there’s so much to do and explore in Aruba, from visiting a donkey sanctuary and butterfly farm to going snorkeling and surfing. Plus, there’s no shortage of hotels to stay at that are right along the beach such as The Ritz Carlton or Hyatt Regency Aruba. It’s known as the “one happy island,” and you’re destined to have a great time vacationing there. 

New Orleans

New Orleans is another teen-friendly destination that’s filled with lively music, delicious food, and a rich history. If your teen is interested in Mardi Gras, try to plan a visit to Mardi Gras World or the Mardi Gras Museum of Costumes and Culture. These experiences offer a glimpse into the huge parade floats and costumes used during Mardi Gras in a fun and interactive way. For those foodie families, you’ll want to make a stop at Cafe Du Monde and Cafe Beignet to try the world-famous beignets, too. Not sure where to stay? There’s a number of hotels in the French Quarter and Riverwalk areas such as Caesar’s New Orleans, Four Seasons Hotel New Orleans, The Eliza Jane, and NOPSI Hotel

Columbus, Ohio

If you’re thinking about making a trip to the Midwest, then Columbus, Ohio, needs to be on your travel radar. For those teens who love to learn, you’ll want to check out the Center of Science and Industry, often simply called COSI. Starting in May 2025, it will have a cool new exhibit called Unofficial Galaxies, which features props, designs, and behind-the-scenes inspired by Star Wars. Aside from the museum, you’ll want to plan stops at the Franklin Park Conservatory and the Columbus Zoo. If you don’t have a hotel booked, then you’ll want to consider staying at The Junto which is located steps away from COSI.

Frankfurt, Germany

For those teens who have expressed interest in traveling internationally, Frankfurt, Germany, is a great place to visit during the summer. There’s so much to see and do here from going to the top of Main Tower to exploring the Senckenberg Natural History Museum. If your teen is looking for Instagram-worthy photos to share with their friends, there’s no shortage of amazing architecture and tall buildings there too. For a hotel, the Kimpton Main Frankfurt is a great one that’s in a centralized location steps away from the Main Tower and Frankfurter Goethe-Haus.

Vancouver

Canada needs to be on your travel radar, too, especially if you have teens who love the great outdoors. From the VanDusen Botanical Garden to Stanley Park, the whole family can be immersed in nature while taking in Vancouver’s scenic views. Don’t forget to take a stroll in downtown Vancouver, which is full of cute restaurants, shops, and hotels. Speaking of hotels, you’ll want to book a room at the EXchange Hotel, which is in the heart of the downtown area. The building the EXchange Hotel is in is the former stock exchange building, hence the name. 

Hilton Head, South Carolina

Hilton Head is an extremely popular destination for families with teens as there’s so much to do, from beaches and outdoor activities to guided tours and excursions. Teens will be particularly fond of the numerous biking trails, pickleball courts, and beaches. When the teens get tired after a day’s worth of activities, parents can explore the area and the nightlife that Hilton Head has to offer, like having drinks and music at Tiki Hut. 

Chicago

Similar to New York City, Chicago is hustling and bustling with life and excitement at every corner. If your teen likes theater, then you’ll want to get tickets to see a show at Cadillac Palace Theater or Broadway Playhouse — there are usually shows running throughout the year. For the teen who loves to sightsee, you’ll want to make stops at The Bean, Chicago Museum Campus, 360 Chicago, The Great Big Game Show, and Navy Pier. Need a place to stay while in Chicago? Look into The Gwen or the Chicago Athletic Association Hotel for a more luxurious option the whole family will enjoy. 

San Diego

California is such a big state with so much to see and do you couldn’t possibly do it all on one vacation. That said, San Diego needs to be on your radar as there’s so much excitement going on. From the San Diego Botanic Garden and the San Diego Zoo to SeaWorld San Diego and San Diego Space & Air Museum it’s full of opportunities and exploration. While in San Diego, opt for a more unique hotel experience and book a room at the Granger Hotel that has a modern, colorful aesthetic and is in close proximity to shops and dining.

Orlando

Teenagers love theme parks and Orlando is home to a bunch of them including Universal Studios and Walt Disney World. 

At Disney World, teens can join in the fun by going on rides such as Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, Tron Lightcycle Run, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, Expedition Everest, and more. Plus, you can’t forget to grab a Mickey ice cream bar. 

At Universal Studios, teenagers can experience Epic Universe, which officially opened in May 2025. The park has five lands, including the Ministry of Magic, Celestial Park, Super Nintendo World, Isle of Berk, and Dark Universe. Whether your teen likes How to Train Your Dragon or Harry Potter there are areas in the park they’ll really enjoy. 

There are tons of hotels to stay at in the Orlando area but Disney’s Pop Century Resort and Universal’s Endless Summer Resort are two good places to start. 

Anaheim, California

If you find yourself in Los Angeles, then you’ll want to drive about 40 minutes to Anaheim. There is so much to do in Anaheim for the whole family, whether you’re interested in theme parks, sports, or other sunny adventures. For starters, a trip to Anaheim isn’t complete without a visit to Disneyland for the 70th anniversary celebration or Knott’s Berry Farm — go on a few coasters, give Mickey Mouse a hug, and create some shared memories. If your teen likes sports, then you’ll want to get tickets to see the NHL’s Anaheim Ducks at the Honda Center or MLB’s Los Angeles Angels at Angel Stadium in Anaheim.
