We are constantly connected to work, other people, and social media. To get the most out of your summer vacation with your family, be sure to totally unplug. Spend a few days or hours, whatever you can do, away from your phone. Stop checking your notifications while on vacation. The most important people are right in front of you!

The summer is a great time to get outside. Take advantage of the nice weather as often as possible. Make sure to get outside every day that you can. This practice will help clear your mind and get your body some fresh air. It will get everyone a break from screens and get them up and moving. Whether you get out in your own backyard or go for a walk around your neighborhood, there is a way for you to enjoy being outside.

Camping is a staple of many summer vacations, and for good reason. It is a great opportunity to spend some time out in nature, unplug, and reconnect with your kids and partner. If you want to explore the great outdoors while still having the comforts of home, try an RV! You’ll be able to enjoy all the fun of camping and still have access to amenities like a kitchen, bathroom, and comfortable mattress. Make sure to pack some delicious food and plan some fun activities. Don’t forget the s'mores fixings and flashlights for some shadow fun.

The park is a great way to get out and about without it being high pressure. You can spend as much or as little time there as you like, depending on your kids' moods. It will help them get out some energy and provide you with a change of location. They can run around and you can sit and read, or you can push them on the swings. The park is a great place to venture to during summer vacation for a more low-key outing.

You are sure to have some fun when you take the time to play at least some of the time.

Another key to making the most of summer vacation is being flexible. Especially when you have kids, things can change so easily. Sometimes plans need to be changed or things just don't work out. Maybe one of your kids doesn't feel good or skips his nap. The ability to adapt as change plans is essential in enjoying your summer. You can always move things around.

Being outside is great, but sometimes it can get to be too much. When it is hot, you will sometimes need a break from the heat and the sun. Make sure to plan some indoor activities during your summer vacation as well. Have a movie or game night or afternoon to get a break and relax inside for a bit during vacation. Doing this will help everyone recharge.

Kids can still learn new skills while on vacation. You can plant a garden with your kids and have them help take care of it. Young kids will be especially interested and take pride in helping. This activity will also help them learn about how things grow. It is a fun and rewarding activity to do with your kids. Plus, then you get to eat your end results!

Summertime is ideal for stargazing. There is a lot to be said for times of rest and quiet. Looking at the stars is a great activity to foster this. You can add in some education as well by teaching your kids about different constellations. Just having these times of quiet can also help foster conversation, and you may find that you learn new things about those in your family.

Sunrises and sunsets are uniquely beautiful. Summer vacation is a great time to witness one or both of these. You may be able to enjoy these with your partner when the kids are in bed. You can also include your kids in something that they usually do not get the chance to see. Grab some coffee and watch a sunrise, or grab a glass of wine to go along with your sunset evening.

Planning ahead is a great way to make the most of your summer vacation. Make a list of all of the things that you, your partner, and your kids would like to do. From there, you can decide which make the most sense and when you can fit them in. While plans are helpful and great to follow, make sure to stay flexible because things do not always go according to plan — especially with kids!
