7 Scavenger Hunt Ideas Perfect for Family Fun

The lovely weather is here, and families everywhere are outside exploring and soaking up the sunshine. It's time for some good, clean outdoor fun. One great way to get kids up and away from all the electronics is to organize an old-fashioned scavenger hunt. You can do them anywhere—at home or while on vacation. You just need some inspiration and a few willing participants.

Here are seven ideas for scavenger hunts that will get your kids hyped up.

1. Items in nature. Give them a list with things like pine cones, something smooth, something fuzzy, and a type of seed, then send them outside to find them.

2. Get a clue. A little more challenging is making them solve puzzles along the way.

3. Zoo scavenger hunt. Especially good for younger children, you can print a list of animals to find here.

4. Super Hero Scavenger Hunt. Over at the blog On (the Laundry) Line, Laura shows how she put together a superhero one for her kids.

5. Beach scavenger hunt. From shells to seaweed and other treasures, there's plenty to hunt for near the water.

6. Photography scavenger hunt. Instead of having them actually gather items, give everyone a camera or camera phone and have them take pictures of a variety of items and/or places.

7. Colors or letters scavenger hunt. Perfect for those learning their numbers or colors (and still fun for everyone), you can have them find items that start with a set of letters or have certain colors in them.
