We've all had to have difficult conversations with our in-laws. Maybe it's about lax rules at bedtime, too many sweets, or perhaps they've gone way too overboard on the gifts. But could you tell your mother-in-law that she can't walk around naked in front of your kids? That was the dilemma one mom faced when her mother-in-law was taking care of her school-aged kids and nipped out of her room to take a shower completely in the buff. The kids were obviously a little freaked at seeing their grandmother in the nude, and now mom is wondering, "Am I being unreasonable to think this is not acceptable?"
The drama started when the mom wondered if it was strange for her MIL to be walking around in her birthday suit.
Concerned that she was overreacting, the mom wrote in to the parenting forum Mumsnet, where she explained that both she and her kids were a little weirded out by the situation.
But was she taking things too far?
Many parents wrote in and agreed with the mom -- this was a little strange on grandma's part.
One parent was shocked to think that anyone could think this was appropriate.
This mom said that if the genders were reversed there is no way that this would be okay.
And this mom said that 12 is way too old to see your grandma naked. "It's just plain weird!"
But some parents felt differently. There was nothing inappropriate going on here, they argued.
This mom wrote in that she couldn't see a problem with it
It was probably an accident, another user reasoned.
And this mom suggested that the original poster have her husband tell his mom to cover up when the kids are over.
And maybe this user is right. If it is making you uncomfortable for anyone in the family to be naked in front of your kids, it's best to have the hard conversation with that person.
