Kylie Kelce Worries That Postpartum Emotions Could Push Her To Ask for a ‘Mom Cut’

Kylie Kelce will not be cutting her hair anytime soon. Before she started having kids, she warned her hairdresser to not let her make any postpartum hair decisions. According to Kylie, the urge to get a “mom cut” would be a sign that she was struggling post-pregnancy. During the most recent episode of her Not Gonna Lie podcast, Kylie sat down with Jersey Shore alum Jenni “JWoww” Farley. Through their somewhat lighthearted conversation about questionable haircuts, they delved into a serious topic: postpartum mental health.

Kylie spoke to her hairdresser before welcoming her kids.

Kylie is mom to four daughters: Wyatt, 5, Elliotte, 4, Bennett, 2, and Finnley, whom she and her husband Jason Kelce welcomed on March 30, 2025. Prior to giving birth, Kylie spoke to an unexpected person about postpartum mental health: her hairdresser.

The reason for this is actually pretty simple. Kylie knows that if she were to request a “mom cut,” it would mean something was wrong with her.

She described the “mom cut” as “the really cute, like, shorter hair.” And while the hairstyle is “cute,” Kylie knows that it’s not for her. However, she worries that she might not have that insight when influenced by postpartum emotions.

“I told her, ‘If I ever come to you and ask for a shorter haircut, I need you to take me to the doctor’s office,'” Kylie revealed.

Jenni said she shaved her head after giving birth and no one intervened.

After welcoming her eldest child, Meilani, who is now 11 years old, Jenni thought trying out a new hairstyle sounded like a good idea. Looking back, she thinks the new look should’ve signaled that something was off.

“I shaved the side of my head after I had Meilani,” Jenni told Kylie. “Nobody questioned it. Nobody said, ‘Oh, should we get her checked out? What’s going on there?’ I went full blonde, shaved, and just was like chillin’.”

At the time, it felt like a “great” decision. Jenni also revealed that she asked for “the mom cut” at one point then regretted it. “I did the mom cut too and I hated it and I cried,” she revealed.

She urged people to check on their friends who’ve just had children.

The conversation about hairstyles sparked a broader one about postpartum mental health challenges. Jenni told people to check in on their mom friends. She explained, “I feel like we need to start asking our friends that just had babies, ‘Are you OK? Do you need a break? Do you need someone to talk to? How’s your mental health? Are you sleeping? Are you eating properly? Are you seeing s—? Do you want to shave your head?’”

Kylie agreed that it can be hard to check in with yourself.

When it comes to postpartum mental health, Kylie “had a different experience for every single one of [her] kids.” After welcoming Wyatt, she experienced baby blues, also called postpartum depression, which she has opened up about before. This time, she added that she “experienced some forms of postpartum” with her other children as well.

Thinking back to those challenges, Kylie said it can be hard to recognize what’s going on in the moment. “In the moment, it’s hard to have a personal check and be like, ‘Am I OK right now?’” she said.

This is why she decided to speak to her hairdresser in advance. “Logical, grounded Kylie” doesn’t want a short haircut. But “sleepless, hungry Kylie” would probably say, “Chop that s—.”
