Four days after giving birth to her third child, a mom in Ontario, Canada, died of sepsis. Her husband believes that her tragic death could’ve been prevented. According to him, shortly after giving birth, his wife, Ravinder Kaur Sidhu, started exhibiting concerning symptoms. Medical staff, however, allegedly told him that these symptoms were “normal.”
The grieving husband, Gurinder Sidhu, has started a petition to raise awareness of the issues he believes led to his wife’s death. He is pushing for policy change, along with a public release of the hospital’s investigation and an independent review of all care decisions made while his wife was in the hospital.
Her husband says the hospital waited about 30 hours before treating the issue.
Ravinder Sidhu gave birth to her third child at Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga on June 19, 2025. In his Change.org petition, Gurinder Sidhu said his wife “began showing signs of serious infection” after giving birth. Per CTV News, she needed to get stitches due to vaginal tearing. Later, Ravinder Sidhu began experiencing several concerning symptoms, according to her husband. In addition to vomiting and pain, she reportedly had a fever and started shaking.
As Gurinder Sidhu wrote in the petition, “According to her medical records in my possession and my direct observations at her bedside, she developed a 39.2 °C (102.56 °F) fever and began shaking uncontrollably. Her blood pressure dropped to 63/35 — a level I have since learned can indicate septic shock.”
But based on his calculations, about 30 hours passed before medical staff gave his wife antibiotics.
By then, she was already battling a serious infection.
Gurinder Sidhu told CTV News and CBC that medical staff were initially pretty dismissive. “I was just waiting for her to get better, but things were not progressing well,” he told CBC. “The reply I always got was, ‘These symptoms are normal.’ But now I’ve learned that nothing was normal about those symptoms.”
Speaking to CTV News, the grieving husband said doctors initially tried to say his wife’s pain was just caused by giving birth. Later, when they suspected that she had developed sepsis, they allegedly blamed an acupuncture treatment she had prior to giving birth instead of linking the infection to the vaginal tear.
On Change.org, Ravinder’s husband wrote, “Based on my observations and the documentation available to me, approximately 30 hours elapsed between the first symptoms and the administration of the first dose of antibiotics. By that time, doctors told me she had a rapidly progressing Group A Strep infection, which had begun to severely damage her uterus and was starting to spread to her leg.”
He believes that the delay in treatment is the reason their children will grow up without their mother.
Gurinder Sidhu believes that with proper treatment, his wife would still be here today. But because the hospital allegedly didn’t take action promptly when she showed signs of sepsis, he has “A one-month-old son who will never know her embrace. A six-year-old daughter who asks why Mom isn’t at bedtime. A seven-year-old son who still sets an extra place at the dinner table,” he wrote.
The hospital responded via a statement.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of Mrs. Ravinder Sidhu. This is a profound loss, and our thoughts are with all those who are grieving, including members of our team,” the hospital expressed in a statement shared with People. “We take the concerns raised by her family very seriously. As part of our commitment to the highest standards of care, we have initiated a thorough review process led by an interdisciplinary team of clinical experts. This process includes listening closely to the family, engaging directly with the care team, and examining our policies and practices as we strive to deliver the highest quality of care.”
