A mom on TikTok is raising eyebrows after sharing her nontraditional “rules as a parent.” The list includes things we think we all can agree on — respecting each other’s privacy, staying off social media until a child’s older — but the comments section was split after @itsjustkinzie shared her thoughts on smoking and throwing parties at the house.
According to the TikToker, she has it all planned out when it comes to raising kids.
The mom was fearless when she gave her parenting hot takes in a video posted last year that is now going viral.
First things first, she wants her child to be able to pick whatever religion she wants, which sounds pretty reasonable.
“First cell phone probably fifth or sixth grade, you can have social media in seventh/eighth grade,” she explained in the footage.
Her kids are allowed to date in high school.
But if she finds out that they’re having sex — “birth control is a nonnegotiable. I’m not raising your child,” she said.
She also said she’s pretty lenient when it comes to drinking, sharing “if you want a glass of wine with dinner I’m not going to make a big deal about it. I would prefer you not to smoke anything but if you are gonna smoke, do it at home.”
She also wants her kids to get good grades and join at least one club or sport at school.
“I’ll be lenient about hanging out with your friends and parties, but I have to have your location at all times,” she said.
And perhaps her most controversial statement was her last: “If you’re under the age of 15, no sleepovers if I don’t know them.”
And this: “You can also throw house parties as long as you clean up afterward.”
More than 125,000 people have watched her video — and yes, people had opinions.
Some people thought she was 100% right on the money.
"This list is very reasonable I agree!" wrote one commenter.
"Y’all people complaining about the no drinking or smoking do realize your kids will eventually do it if they want to behind your back," someone else wrote.
"I like this just because your child will trust you more and be able to come to you for anything," shared a third commenter.
Some people thought she was way off.
"Not gonna lie, I would be trippin on the 'have to be in a club/sport thing,'" one commenter admitted.
"Other than the birth control one I like these," another commenter chimed in.
"Agree except drinking and smoking," someone else wrote.
In this case, we think we can all agree to disagree. Parenting definitely doesn't have to look the same for everyone.
