Video of Teen’s Outburst at AT&T Store After Her Mom Deactivated Her Phone Goes Viral

Phone use often causes tension between parents and teens. According to Pew Research Center, about 4 in 10 parents and teens say they regularly argue with each other about how much time is spent on their phones.

In a viral video, one mom seemingly tried to take away her teen daughter’s phone access, and it didn’t exactly go over well. In fact, police had to get involved.

The mom and teen were at a phone store when the teenager seemingly threw a tantrum.

The teen’s emotional reaction at the phone store has gone viral on social media. In the video originally shared by @wydchichii on TikTok, the teenager jumped around, grabbed her mom’s neck and started pleading.

According to the caption on the original video, the mom allegedly deactivated her daughter’s phone.

'Mama, PLEASE!' the teen shouted.

While they were at the store, the teen continued to grab onto her mom and shout, “Please!”

At the end of the video, the mom seemingly tried to get her daughter out of the store, but her daughter resisted and dropped to the ground in the process. Based on the video, the mom and teen kept arguing outside of the store in front of a police car. It’s unclear what happened next.

Many people had a 'kids these days' reaction to the video.

The person who originally shared the viral video on TikTok wrote that “her mom cut off her phone.”

Although it’s unclear where the person obtained the footage or what exactly happened, many people saw it as a representation of how the younger generations behave. Others saw it as a symptom of technology addiction. Additionally, some people even pointed to “gentle parenting.”

Some wondered what the teen was doing on her phone.

To others, the teen’s reaction seemed suspicious.

“Baby that teen got something else going on & it’s in that phone!” one person commented on TikTok.

“She’s talking to someone she doesn’t need to be talking to,” another person suspected.

More information is needed.

Based on one clip alone, it’s hard to understand exactly what happened.

“I need more details,” one person responded on X.

Another person wrote, “I still don’t know what’s going on.”

Despite the limited information, the video was enough to make some people feel like maybe parenting isn’t for them.

“See nah I don’t have the patience to be a parent,” one person concluded after watching the video on X.

It's common for parents to try to monitor their teens' phone use.

Of course, many parents try to monitor how much time their teens spend on their phones and what they do on their phones. About half of parents in the US set time limits for phone use, according to the Pew Research Center.

In addition, a lot of parents also try to monitor what their teens are doing on their phones, with 50% of parents saying they look through their teenagers’ devices sometimes.
