It's hard being a new mom (or even an experienced mom to a new baby) and sometimes we do things we know we shouldn't, despite what all the experts say. But this is a safe place to share your secrets (PM me)—we'll never tell.

This Week's Secret:
My 9-month-old twins have never been easy babies, but for the most part, they have gotten past the colicky phase. Except when we get in the car. I can't even drive five minutes without them dissolving into hysteria, which is how they remain for the rest of the drive, no matter how long. The other day, I gave my son a lollipop and he stopped. The next day I gave lollipops to them both. Now I do it every time we are in the car. I'm freaked because it's a choking hazard and bad for their teeth (they each have four), but I can't stop now. I feel like they're safer because I won't get into an accident — Anonymous
This is a tough one.
I've definitely been known to give my kids treats to help them calm down and that screaming in the car IS dangerous. I've almost swerved off the road quite a few times while trying to calm them down in the back.
All that said, 9 months is really young to be giving lollipops. Never mind the sugar on their brand-new teeth, my concern would be much more about the choking hazard.
If you can stand it, you may have to just let them outgrow the phase and avoid the car. Or maybe they would like a pacifier or something a little safer.
How about you? Do you have any advice for this mom?
