Prince Harry & Meghan Markle Finally Move Out of Frogmore Cottage

Three years after stepping down as working members of the British royal family, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have finally moved out of their royal abode. According to multiple reports, the famously controversial royal couple officially vacated Frogmore Cottage in Windsor. The news comes three months after the pair was reportedly asked to move out by Harry's father, King Charles.

A royal representative confirmed the news.

"We can confirm that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have vacated Frogmore Cottage," Sir Michael Stevens, who serves as keeper of the Privy Purse, said at the annual Sovereign Grant account briefing on royal finances on Thursday, according to Sky News. "We will not be going into any detail on those arrangements here."

Harry and Meghan purchased a home in California nearly three years ago.

Despite having purchased a luxury mansion in Santa Barbara in August 2020, with neighbors including Oprah and Ariana Grande, the happily married duo's status of their royal home has been unclear until now. Of course, that has sparked some controversy over the years.

Some British taxpayers were up in arms over the money Harry and Meghan allegedly spent to renovate Frogmore Cottage. Stevens, however, asserts that they've paid back the Crown.

"Safe to say that, as has previously been stated, the duke and duchess have paid for the expenditure incurred by the Sovereign Grant in relation to the renovation of Frogmore Cottage, thus leaving the Crown with a greatly enhanced asset," he said, per Sky News.

Harry reportedly visited Frogmore earlier this month.

According to E! News, Prince Harry actually spent some time at Frogmore Cottage earlier in June when he was in England to testify against the Mirror Group in a phone hacking case in which he alleged that the company hacked his phone to gain intel on his personal life.

We can only imagine that losing the cottage was a bit emotional.

Although they appear beyond happy as a family of four living the California life, Harry and Meghan once said they envisioned raising their children at Frogmore Cottage, so we can only surmise that moving out was a bit emotional.

"We always saw Archie running around the garden at Frogmore Cottage and maybe jumping in the Queen's pond," Harry said in the Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan, which was released in 2022. "That was all part of our future, and everything changed really, really quickly. We knew that we were going to get some breathing space from this very painful experience that we'd been stuck in, but also it was really sad."
