It can be hard to conceptualize anything other than the way we were taught to wrap growing up. But by simply watching the step-by-step video tutorials, we can all have aesthetically pleasing presents under our Christmas trees this year. And if you have bulky or odd-shaped items that you’re not totally sure how to wrap, tricks exist for those as well. Here are the 12 best wrapping tips TikTok has to offer.

Didn't Cut Enough Paper
It feels like the No. 1 wrapping paper issue is always that we almost have enough to wrap a present but maybe we cut the paper a little short. We can still use the paper to wrap by simply turning the gift diagonally, as @jeffandlaurenshow did in a helpful TikTok video.
Wrapping Non-Box Items
Odd-shaped items can be a struggle to wrap in an aesthetic way. TikToker Lindsay Roggenbuck posted a video hack that shows how to turn wrapping paper into a present pouch. If you don’t have a gift bag handy or the present is too large or awkwardly shaped, this is a great method to use.
Easy Gift Card Wrapping
Giving a gift card for the holidays but don’t want to just hand over a plain envelope? Good Housekeeping showed in a TikTok video how you can use an empty paper towel roll to create little card pouches. Then, you can decorate the pouches with markers, ribbon, or wrapping paper.

When a Gift Is Too Long
Trying to wrap a present that’s too big for a standard roll of wrapping paper? TikToker @lenniamc is here to help. She showed how you can use two different rolls of paper to wrap each end. Then, tie a ribbon where the two papers meet to make it look intentional.
Wrap Something Round
Round gifts like mugs or candles can be tricky. Luckily, TikToker @makelifesimpler_ has a video hack for that. She cuts tabs down the length of the wrapping paper piece. Then she rolls up the gift and folds each tab of paper down to wrap the gift securely and aesthetically.
Wrap Bottles
Wine or other bottles of alcohol are popular gifts this time of year, but they’re a nightmare to wrap. Fortunately, you can use Chantel Mila‘s TikTok wrapping hack. She folds the bottom of the paper under the bottle and folds the top into an accordion. After wrapping a ribbon around the length of the package, she unfolds the accordion into a cute fan shape on top of the bottle. It’s adorable and more personal than just using a bag.
Cute Candy Shape
To wrap a small gift without it getting lost under the tree (or to wrap a cylindrical item), we love the candy method that @kristinnicolemiller_ used on TikTok. Simply tape the paper down the middle like normal, but instead of folding in the ends, wrap ribbon around the ends to cinch them in. The end result is a package that looks like a cute little Tootsie Roll.
Leftover Paper Ribbons
Don’t toss the wrapping paper scraps that you cut off the ends of a present. TikToker @mama_mila_ showed how to turn those strips into DIY bows. Watch her video for the full explainer. Basically, you fold a scrap strip in half, cut it into a fish shape, cut a triangle out of the “tail,” and then two small slits to fold into a cute little paper bow.
Perfect Bows
If you’d rather use traditional ribbon to tie a bow on top of a present, @our.neutral.abode showed on TikTok how to tie the perfect Tiffany box bow. Watch the video to see how, but it involves wrapping the end of the ribbon back through the center so there’s no crossover on the back and it lies flat.
Card Pocket
By simply folding a layer in the middle of the wrapping paper, TikToker @chelseawilliamson creates a cute card pocket that ends up on the front of the gift. It’s so easy to do, and it’s the perfect spot for placing a name tag, card, or even the gift receipt.
No Tissue, No Problem
Putting something in a gift bag but you don’t have any tissue paper to hide the present? Just use @lindsayroggenbuck‘s hack. She takes each string of the handle and pokes it through holes on the other side. Just tighten the string and it perfectly closes the bag. No peeking allowed!
Reusable Wrapping Paper
Tired of buying new wrapping paper each year? Try using squares of fabric instead in the Japanese Furoshiki style. TikToker @oh.charlotte.rose showed how to wrap a gift in cloth if you need a video tutorial. Just fold the middle in and tie the two ends in a knot on top of the gift. It looks cute, and the “paper” is reusable year after year.
