Though Carrie Underwood didn’t win any CMA Awards this year, some fans believe that she won the show anyway. The country singer and former American Idol winner surprised fans by joining Cody Johnson on stage at the 2024 Country Music Association Awards in Nashville on November 20. One fan on X (formerly Twitter) called the performance “phenomenal,” but others chose to focus on Carrie’s appearance instead.

Carrie Underwood joined Cody Johnson after he had already started performing solo.
The reason Carrie’s CMA Awards performance came as a surprise is because she was not listed as a performer on the CMA website. And though Cody started performing “I’m Gonna Love You” alone at first, Carrie then appeared on stage alongside him during the second verse.
Fans praised the performance.
Some fans think Carrie stole the show even though she didn’t win any awards.
“I have never heard a more pure and beautiful live vocal in my life,” one fan reacted to the performance on X.
Journalist Alison Bonaguro wrote, “@carrieunderwood didn’t win anything tonight. But then again, maybe she did. Maybe she won the whole show.”

Some people focused on Carrie's appearance.
While many fans took to social media to praise both Carrie and Cody for their talent, some people focused on Carrie’s appearance instead.
On X, some fans claimed that Carrie “definitely has had work done.”
One person wrote, “Stop what did Carrie Underwood do to her lips and nose.”
“Enough with the lip filler Carrie Underwood,” another person commented.
Per AmoMama, some fans even zeroed in on Carrie’s “belly” and speculated that she might be pregnant.
Other fans defended the country star.
Though some people were critical of Carrie’s appearance, others were quick to defend her — or simply loved the way she looked at the CMA Awards.
“Y’all need to stop dissing Carrie underwood, you’d complain about anything if you really wanted to just like you complained about her outfit and her lips last night just stfu,” one person wrote on X.
“She looked so beautiful, I will never get over this,” another fan commented.
Before the CMA Awards, Luke Bryan talked about working alongside Carrie, who is a new judge on 'American Idol.'
Though she wasn’t nominated for any awards at the CMA Awards this year, Carrie has been working on various projects, including her new role on American Idol. Luke, who was a cohost at the CMA Awards, recently spoke to Extra about working alongside Carrie Underwood.
“Carrie and I had always been, you know, in the business together, but we never spent much time together, so to sit behind the desk and watch her really learn how to transition out of, like, being the winner of American Idol and a superstar to, like, being the judge at the table … she’s doing good,” he said.
