It’s been nearly 10 years since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry first met, but one of his former friends is still looking back on who he was before everything changed. According to comedian Jack Whitehall, who was once in the Duke of Sussex’s circle, Harry “dropped his mates” when he met Meghan – and he’s not the first to make these claims about the royal.

When Jack appeared on Melbourne, Australia’s morning radio show Jase & Lauren, he opened up about his past royal friendships, Harry included.
“I’ve come into contact with a couple of [the royals] in the past,” he admitted on the show, via Page Six. “I was quite good friends with Harry back in the day. Pre-Meghan, when he was a terror.”
When the hosts asked him if it was true that Harry “dropped his mates” when he met his future wife, Jack confirmed the rumors, though he said he wasn’t part of his “inner circle” to begin with.
“I had a few nights out with him when he was quite fun,” he said.
Jack previously joked about not being invited to Harry and Meghan’s wedding during his 2022 How To Survive The Summer Holidays comedy tour.
“I think I have been banned because I called him ‘Ginger Nuts’ at the Royal Variety,” he quipped in the show, according to Marie Claire UK – a reference to his 2015 performance at the Royal Variety Show.

Jack’s latest admission isn’t the first time that Harry has been accused of ditching his pre-marriage friend group. As Page Six pointed out, a 2019 report from Tatler claimed that Harry cut out his good friend Tom “Skippy” Inskip when he “advised Harry not to marry Meghan.”
Around the same time, a source told The Express that not only was Tom left behind but so were any of Harry’s friends who he saw as “a questionable influence.”
“Like several others who were considered a questionable influence on Harry during his bad old bachelor days, Tom has been dropped, even though he himself now has a lovely wife, Lara,” the insider said at the time. “It’s all part of Meghan’s quiet airbrushing out of Harry’s old posse. She doesn’t want temptation – of any sort – being put in his way while they concentrate on starting a family.”
We may never know for sure what happened between Harry and his old friend group, but it definitely seems like he’s changed a lot from the man he was before he settled down.
