While promoting his upcoming Netflix show, comedian John Mulaney roasted Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. John’s new show, titled Everybody’s Live With John Mulaney, is set to premiere on March 12. Speaking to reporters about his show, John joked, “We will never be relevant. We will never be your source for news. We will always be reckless. Netflix will always provide us with data that we will ignore.”

His Netflix project reminds him of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s projects.
Calling his show “a really fun experiment,” John Mulaney told reporters that “not since Harry and Meghan has Netflix given more money to someone without a specific plan.” John Mulaney was referencing the $100 million deal Netflix reportedly made with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex after they stepped away from their royal duties.
So far, Harry and Meghan have completed four Netflix projects: Harry & Meghan, Heart of Invictus, Polo, and Live to Lead.
Meghan Markle’s new show, which hasn’t premiered yet, has already been criticized.
Originally, With Love, Meghan was set to premiere in January, but it will now debut in March. Netflix has described the show as “a heartfelt tribute to the beauty of Southern California” that “blends practical how-to’s and candid conversation with friends.” After a trailer for the show came out, some critics, including Eater reporter Amy McCarthy, criticized the cooking and lifestyle show for looking “dull.” Others said it seemed a bit out of touch.

In response to the naysayers, some fans and friends jumped to Meghan’s defense. On X, one fan wrote, “Meghan Markle was born to be a luxury lifestyle girlie. I love this for her.”
Chef Adrian Lipscombe took to Instagram to call out Eater for its scathing review of the show prior to its release. “How are you going to criticize someone or judge a TV show before it has even aired?” Adrian wrote, urging people to think about the “bigger picture.”
“It’s about a systemic issue in media and entertainment that continues to dismiss or belittle efforts by women, especially women of color, to create something meaningful,” she added.
When Harry and Meghan signed their deal with Netflix, they spoke about the content they planned to create.
“Our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope,” the royal couple said in a statement at the time. In 2024, Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria was similarly vague when talking about Meghan and Harry’s Netflix projects.
“Oh, what are they working on?” the Netflix executive said, per Deadline. “They have a couple of unscripted things they’re working on with Brandon [Reigg]. And they actually have like a bunch of development, they have a movie in development, a [scripted] series that they’re working on. So all very early development, with a movie, a TV show and a couple of unscripted shows. But yeah, the movie’s great.”
An insider claims that the royals are ‘in a dangerous spot.’
The source told In Touch that Meghan and Harry still have work to do. “They still have yet to deliver a rock-solid hit for Netflix that wins over their critics,” the insider told the publication. Reportedly, “there’s not a lot of sympathy for them” in the industry.
The insider claimed that “professionals in the TV business” view Meghan and Harry’s Netflix shows as “mostly pointless Netflix shows” that are “taking opportunities away from creators and talent who are TV professionals with legitimately strong ideas.”
