Girl, 6, Found Dead in Bathtub Filled With Water in Brooklyn With Concerning Detail

During the first few years of life, children cannot be left unattended during bath time. Parents should be well aware of the drowning risk of leaving a baby or a toddler alone but at a certain point, kids no longer need adult supervision. Tragically, however, a 6-year-old girl was recently found dead in a bathtub filled with water.

In early February, a girl died in a bathtub at her Brooklyn, New York, home. Both of her parents were allegedly home at the time. And police apparently found a concerning detail on the child’s body when she was discovered.

The girl was found dead in a bathtub on February 7.

Police responded to a 911 call in Brooklyn at roughly 1:30 p.m. February 7, NBC New York reported. The home was near the intersection of Elton Street and Ridgewood Avenue in Cypress Hills. There, officers found a 6-year-old girl “unconscious and unresponsive” in a bathtub filled with water.

Both parents were home at the time.

First responders took the girl to Brookdale Hospital Medical Center. Sadly, she was later pronounced dead. Both of the child’s parents were home when the incident happened, the New York Times reported.

Thus far, no arrests have been made.

The child’s mother was questioned by police, NBC New York reported. Law enforcement officials told the news outlet that questioning was “part of standard protocol when a child’s death is involved.” Thus far, no charges have been filed and no arrests have been made.

A concerning detail was found on the child’s body.

When the unnamed 6-year-old was found, law enforcement noted a detail about her body. The child allegedly had “blood clots in her eyes,” police officials told the Times, potentially a sign of a struggle. The medical examiner’s office will conduct an autopsy to determine the official cause of death.

Reportedly, it was the second time police were called to the home that week.

Helen Cunningham, a neighbor of the family, told the Times that the girl lived with her parents and one or two other children. They reportedly moved in a few months before the tragedy. According to Cunningham, police responded to a call to the home a different day that week as well.
