‘The Only Memories I Have Are Traumatic:’ Mom Says Hospital’s Mistake Made Her Miss Baby’s Birth

A mom of five is blaming a hospital for the traumatic birth experience she had. When TikToker Brittany (@allegedlybrittany) went into the hospital for a scheduled C-section, she was surprised to see a “young man” who hadn’t introduced himself in the room with the nurse anesthetist. She was even more surprised when she realized he was the one who was putting the needle in her spine for the epidural.

Because multiple things ended up going wrong that day, she doesn’t have any memories from her birth experience other than traumatic ones.

She started ‘freaking out’ at the hospital.

Realizing that the young man who hadn’t introduced himself was performing the “epidural spinal tap” without her permission, Brittany felt nervous. Then, she noticed that the procedure was “taking longer than usual” because she had had C-sections several times. When she heard the nurse anesthetist “actively correcting him,” she started “internally freaking out,” she explained in a video shared on TikTok.

Later, during a poke test, Brittany realized that she wasn’t actually numb. After getting more medicine and a second poke test, she still felt the same way. Before starting the C-section, the nurse did a wet wipe test, Brittany said. Because Brittany couldn’t feel anything then, they moved forward with the C-section.

Brittany wasn’t numb during the C-section.

In her video, she described feeling like she “nearly levitated off of that table.” Because she wasn’t numb, medical staff called the anesthesiologist in, and he said, “We need to put her under now.” She said she had “no idea what (was) going on.”

She doesn’t remember much of what happened after that. “I don’t have any pictures or videos or memories of his delivery,” she explained in her TikTok. “The only memories I do have are traumatic.”

After she went home from the hospital, she continued to have problems.

Unfortunately, Brittany’s negative experience didn’t end after she welcomed her fifth baby. After she returned home, she had “the worst headache” and contacted her obstetrician, who suspected Brittany was suffering from a spinal headache. The mom ended up going back to the hospital and having another procedure done. She believes this occurred because of mistakes made while performing the epidural.

“They put a needle in my spine multiple times and I got a spinal leak, which led to the spinal headache, so I had to go in and got a blood patch procedure done,” she said.

She shared her feelings with the hospital.

In an update shared in May 2025, Brittany named and addressed the hospital. “This message is for Wentworth-Douglass Hospital,” she declared.

She went on to tell the hospital that she had a baby there in February, and said its mistakes caused her to have a traumatic birth experience. “You let a student perform the epidural spinal tap on me without asking or even telling me,” she shared in the new clip. “And he messed it up so severely that I not only got a spinal leak and a spinal headache that I had to treat later on with a blood patch, but also, I wasn’t numb.”

To emphasize the pain the hospital allegedly caused her, she added, “You cut open someone that wasn’t numb. So I had to be put to sleep. I missed my entire son’s birth.”

In her video, she stated that she wrote a formal complaint to the hospital. In response, she reportedly received a letter that stated, “Unfortunately we are unable to release specific information related to your review … however, just know we’re taking this feedback very seriously and it will be addressed internally.”

The mom was clearly not satisfied with this response.

@allegedlybrittany @Wentworth-Douglass Hospital I was clearly very upset when I made this video and didn’t give many details so I’ll do my best to list them here for more clarity. There is also another video that goes into a lot more detail on my page. -I was told by the anesthesiologist that a female anesthesia nurse would be doing my epidural/spinal block combo. I was never asked or told that a student would be doing it, I would have politely declined. -I didn’t know the male student was doing the epidural/spinal block until I heard the anesthesia nurse actively correcting him -I told them multiple times I could feel it on my left side when they did the poke test then the last time after giving me more medication she did a wet wipe test and I stated I couldn’t feel that. Turns out I couldn’t feel that but could feel the poke tests was because the tip layer was numb but once they got to my muscle I was not numb -Once the anesthesiologist was called into the OR the anesthesia nurse was telling him what she did step by step and asking him what she did wrong to which he (angrily) stated once I told them I could still feel it in my left side they should have sat me up and redid the epidural/spinal block and that she should never use a wet wipe for a test I’m upset that all of this was avoidable. I have severe PTSD from this birth, I cry all the time, both my husband and I missed the birth of our son and I didn’t get to meet him for hours after he was born. Having your muscles cut with a scalpel is unbelievably painful. I have also spoken to a midwife, counselor and patient advocate that all confirmed I 100% should have been asked if a student could preform the epidural/spinal block. I posted this video to raise awareness and I’m glad I did because multiple other women have come forward and messaged me with similar experiences and or their own horror stories. If we can’t get justice for this because we don’t have the money to hire attorneys we should at least tell our stories in the hopes that that will get them to do better for us. I please ask that everyone be kind though and if you have questions I’m open to answering anything. But this is still a very real and raw trauma for me that I am actively working through. After reading the hospital’s response in her video, Brittany asserted, “I want you to know that I f—ing hate you. I think you’re a piece of s—. The fact that I can’t even get an apology for what you did, let alone being like, ‘Hey, this is what we put in place so that never happens again.’ I don’t know, maybe have someone sign a consent form. Just some food for thought.”
