A man by the name of Anthony Thomas Reyes reportedly broke into Donald Trump‘s Florida resort Mar-a-Lago in an attempt to meet Trump’s 18-year-old granddaughter Kai Trump and, allegedly, to try and marry her. According to the Palm Beach Police Department report, via HuffPost, Reyes climbed a wall at the resort and said he wanted to “spread the gospel” and meet and marry Kai.
Donald Trump Jr. and Vanessa Haydon, who are Kai’s parents, were not present at Mar-a-Lago, and neither was Kai. In fact, according to HuffPost, no one that the Secret Service protects was present at the time when Reyes scaled the wall to enter the premises. Mar-a-Lago is owned by Trump and operates as an exclusive private club open only to members.

According to Huffpost, Reyes once tried to get on Trump’s Florida property before, though it’s unclear if his motive at that time involved marrying Trump’s granddaughter. Per NBC News, Reyes was arrested after he triggered the alarms on the property. The news outlet also reported that, after Trump’s attempted assassination at Mar-a-Lago in July 2024, the property cracked down on security.
Reyes was taken to Palm Beach County Jail and his bail was reportedly set at $50,000. He was also, according to NBC News, given orders that he is not to try and contact any member of the Trump family. This includes, of course, the president, as well as Kai. As of now, neither Trump nor his granddaughter has commented on the crime, but people online have plenty of thoughts.
People think Trump’s granddaughter needs a full security team.
After the New York Post shared a tweet on X (formerly Twitter) about the crime, people commented to share their thoughts on Reyes wanting to meet and marry Kai, who is 18 and, according to some users, technically an adult. Others found the entire situation to be uncomfortable and scary for the teen, regardless of her age.
“Kai needs some serious protection,” one person commented on X.
Someone else wrote, “This is terrifying. Kai shouldn’t go anywhere without a full security team.”
Kai first made her official public debut at the 2024 Republican National Convention, where she took to the stage and spoke about her grandfather. She gave him a glowing recommendation for president, and she continues to share praises for him on social media.
In regards to the man who tried to break into Mar-a-Lago just to meet her, some people just don’t understand how someone could get that close to the main building.
“How is it possible for someone to scale the wall and Secret Service doesn’t know about until they catch him on the grounds and he explains how he got in?” someone posted on X. “After two assassination attempts they should know the second any wacko is within a mile of MAL.”
