An Australian woman suffered a pregnancy loss after a head-on car crash. Her mother, who was also in the car at the time of the crash, has died as well. The car that hit them was reportedly attempting to evade police. As a result, the driver was going in the wrong direction. Due to the number of cars on the road, police chose not to begin a full chase, but that didn’t stop the driver from fleeing. Now, they’re searching for the driver of the car, and the woman must cope with the immeasurable loss.
The collision took place on Sunday, June 22, 2025, around 2:40 a.m. in Newcastle, Australia, according to a statement from the New South Wales Police Department. Officers noticed a car driving with unauthorized license plates and signaled for it to pull over. However, the driver didn’t stop, continuing to drive “in a dangerous manner.”
Due to “safety concerns,” the officers decided not to pursue the car.
Not long after, a second police car noticed the same car, and this time it crossed over to the wrong side of the road. This caused police to lose sight of the car. A short time later, police got a call that the car they’d been watching was involved in a head-on car crash with another car. The car that was hit had been driving in the opposite direction.
The passenger of the car that was hit, a 55-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. And the driver of that car, a 28-year-old woman, was treated on the scene by paramedics. She was then taken to John Hunter Hospital in serious condition.
“Police have since been informed that the woman was 25 weeks pregnant and has subsequently lost her unborn child,” the statement reads.

According to the police, the driver and front passenger of the original car fled the scene before they showed up. However, there were two teenage rear passengers left behind at the scene. The 15- and 17-year-old girls were treated by paramedics on scene. They were then taken to John Hunter Hospital in serious condition.
Acting Assistant Commissioner Paul Dunstan, said police would like to speak to the driver, who is allegedly a 19-year-old man, the Australian Broadcast Company (ABC) reported.
“Police are actively searching for that man now,” Dunstan said. “Police are wishing to speak to the registered owner of that vehicle, a 17-year-old female, who we believe can assist us with our enquiries.”
Currently, police are asking for anyone with CCTV footage or any other leads to come forward. They believe this could help them find the two teens who fled the scene. None of the victims have been identified.
