Sometimes, the universe just gives you the message you need. In this case, that message is to not compare yourself to other moms. The feeling of failure when you see some moms on social media appearing to accomplish more than you do, play with their kids more, or be overall more present than you are is hard to ignore.
For some moms, it comes in waves, but when one mother caught a mom influencer seemingly pretending to have fun on the beach with her daughter, it was like a wake-up call.
The TikToker, whose name is Ashley, shared a video where she explains how she saw the influencer mom on the beach with her daughter in slightly matching swimsuits. According to Ashley, the mom filmed herself playing with her daughter but cut the camera as soon as it was over, and it appeared to all be in the name of making content.
So we will say it once for the moms in the back: You do not need to compare yourself to the moms you see on social media.

She says the mom influencer initially made her feel inadequate as a mom.
In the video, Ashley explains what she saw on the beach. She says that the influencer mom films herself playing with her daughter and with a sandcastle “for about 10 seconds.”
After this, she looks at her phone, apparently doesn’t like what she sees, and then films with her daughter again. This time, according to Ashley, “she knocks down part of the sandcastle.”
After this, Ashley witnessed the mom take her daughter to the water and set up her tripod there. Then, according to Ashley, the pair played for another 10 seconds before the mom reviewed the footage. At this point, the mom was satisfied with the content, and she told her daughter they would go back to the sand. But the little girl, who thought they would be swimming as the mom promised, was upset.
“I’m just sitting there, like, are you freaking kidding me?” Ashley says in her video. “You just took your daughter to the beach for views, that’s literally all you did. You took her to the beach for views. Are you freaking kidding me? It’s one thing to have a pretend life, but it’s another thing to have a pretend life and use your children for views.”
Other parents in the comment section under Ashley’s TikTok agreed with her, with one even commenting, “Imagine if your childhood was made up of cuts and retakes?”
Someone else added, “That ‘I wish I was better at recording moments with my family’ feeling is so real until you hear stories like this.”
Ashley admits in her video that she wishes she was better at capturing all of the important moments with her kids. When she initially saw the influencer mom with a camera on the beach, she thought she was seeing that in action. Apparently, she was very wrong.
