It didn’t take Todd and Julie Chrisley long to get back in the groove of reality TV after they were released from prison in May. To be fair, the cameras were already rolling before the couple got word of their presidential pardon, making it easy for them to jump right in — and even the moment that they reunited for the first time in nearly three years was captured, as we can see in the first trailer for their new Lifetime show, The Chrisleys: Back to Reality.
The new show explores Todd and Julie’s post-prison lives.
“The new series exposes the raw truth of the [Chrisleys’] lives — past and present — and the reality is far different from what audiences have seen before,” says the synopsis shared by Lifetime. “The family faces a critical point that will either make their bond stronger or leave it shattered forever. This series delivers an unfiltered, deeply personal look at their journey and introduces the real Chrisleys as they navigate this new chapter.”
When the trailer begins, the couple is still behind bars.
Audio taken from phone calls Todd and Julie had in prison can be heard, including one from Julie, who says, “I live every day with the hopes that I will be reunited with my husband and my kids and my parents and my mother-in-law.”
Meanwhile, Todd jokes, “Do you think there’s a possibility that I can get out of here before I need a face lift?”
The show also explores the drama going on behind-the-scenes in the family.
The trailer also revealed daughter Savannah Chrisley’s true feelings about her older sister, Lindsie, who has since changed her last name so she’s no longer a Chrisley, after she wrote a letter to the FBI accusing her father of harassment while he was under federal investigation.
“We’re no longer family,” Savannah said. “Lose our last name.”
Then, we see Todd and Julie reunite after their pardon.
After seeing footage of Savannah picking her dad up from the facility where he was serving time, we see Todd and Julie back together again — and all the tears that came with it.
While talking to the cameras, Todd and Julie say they’re ready to expose their truth.
The Chrisleys: Back to Reality premieres on September 1 on Lifetime.
