There’s still so much we don’t know about Jessa Duggar‘s sixth baby after the little one’s recent arrival, but slowly but surely, the details are beginning to trickle in. This week, she’s been releasing her birth vlog on YouTube separated into two parts (so far), and in the second part, we got to see that Jessa’s younger sister, Jordyn Duggar, got to be involved in the birth of her new niece or nephew in such a cool, special way.
Ben wasn’t interested in cutting the baby’s umbilical cord.
In the video, Jessa revealed that even though this is their sixth child, husband Ben Seewald had never once cut the umbilical cord, as so many new dads have done — and if it’s up to him, that won’t ever be changing.
“First of all, I said to Ben, ‘You’ve never cut the cord. You should cut the cord this time.’ Teasing him mostly because I know he has a very weak stomach for such things,” she explained in the vlog. “He’s a huge support and encouragement to me throughout labor, but he doesn’t want to be near all of that. So, he’s like, ‘No, thank you.’ ”
Jordyn stepped up for the job.
Ben might have been intimidated by the responsibility, but Jordyn, who is now 16, had no problem taking it on for her big sis.
“My sister, Jordyn, this was her first time to be at one of my births,” Jessa said. “And so, I said, ‘Jordyn, you should cut the cord.’ And she was really excited about that. So, she got to cut the cord. She’s like, ‘Wow, this is awesome. This is so cool.’ That was a sweet moment.”
Jessa’s mom Michelle was also present for the birth.
Michelle Duggar is often there for many of her grandchildren’s births, especially when it’s one of her daughters in the delivery room, and this situation was no different.
“My mom is absolutely wonderful,” Jessa said. “She was there with me every step of the way, helping me, supporting me, coaching me.”
After having so many babies herself, Michelle does seem like the kind of person who would be perfect to support a laboring mom.
Mom and baby seem to be doing well so far.
We still don’t know if Jessa’s new addition is a boy or a girl — or what name she and Ben have chosen for their new little one — but it seems as if that information should be coming soon.
Hopefully she and her new baby are getting plenty of rest so she can soak up all those new baby cuddles. But then again, what is rest in a house filled with six kids?
