The life of a reality TV star isn’t always as glam as it appears to be from the outside looking in — at least, not for Kate Gosselin, anyway. Now that the former Jon & Kate Plus 8 star is on TikTok, she took a moment to catch fans up on where her life is at today, including the surprising financial issues she has faced following her 2009 divorce from Jon Gosselin that required her to go back to work as a nurse.
In one of her most recent videos, Kate chatted to the camera (and her nearly 200k followers) as she loaded her dishwasher after she got home from a 12 hour shift as a home health care nurse. In the comments, a fan asked Kate why she returned to such a challenging job, and according to her response, it sounds like it was totally out of necessity.
“Honestly? Providing for 8 kids, college funds which I am proud to say covered all of their college and more and LAWYERS,” Kate replied to the comment.

She continued, “Sickening but I was drug into court constantly and that costs A TON. Sad bc my kids could have a lot more saved and I could have a retirement saved if it weren’t for lawyers. 🙁 It’s okay. I’m helping other families and I feel needed and I enjoy helping!”
In another comment, Kate added, “reality TV doesn’t pay as well as it should when you have to provide for 8 kids on your own.”
Back in March, The Sun reported that Kate renewed her nursing license after she moved from Pennsylvania to North Carolina. In an earlier TikTok video, Kate said she was working in pediatric home healthcare, focusing on one family at a time.
“I work part-time to full-time with them,” Kate explained. “I go in, I do all the medical care, obviously, as well as bathing, feeding, dressing, all the things. So, we play and have a lot of fun.”
“It’s actually a lot of fun,” she admitted. “I miss working with kids. I miss being with kids. The family has other kids that I hang out with as well and I really enjoy it.”
