If you are a crafty mom who mourned the recent closure of Joann’s Fabrics, boy, do we have some exciting news for you.
Joann’s, the beloved store once known for its craft, fabrics, and all things sewing and knitting, has relaunched and is officially open for business in Michael’s stores. Joann’s under Michael’s is now known as The Knit & Sew Shop at Michaels.
When you visit, you’ll notice that the sign features both the Joann and Michael’s logos together, bringing the best of two craft experts together.
What Happened to Joann Fabrics?
Joann’s Stores closed their stand-alone stores, and the brand was acquired by Michaels in June 2025.
Michaels has been committed to serving the customers who loved and shopped at Joann’s by opening their new Knit + Sew Shop that brings back many beloved Joann staples, such as their yarns and fabric cutting tables. You can even see the Joann’s Logo still around at the Knit + Sew Shop!
Here’s what shoppers and craft enthusiasts can expect at the new Knit & Sew Shop:
- Expanded fabric choices and spaces in over 840 stores, with plans to add more
- Online fabric choices
- The “Cut Bar,” fabric cutting tables with experts to help you design and cut fabric for your upcoming projects
- 25% more yarn selections, including those of Joann’s favorite private label brands
- New products, including Joann customer favorites like Big Twist (coming 10/30), Gütermann threads, sewing machines from Singer and Brother, Fiskar, Pellon, Clover, Coats & Clark, VELCRO, Oliso, and over 50 new needle crafting kits
What I love about this new and iconic duo is that Michaels offers project ideas with full supply lists and hosts in-person and online lessons so even non-crafty people like myself can enjoy the crafting fun.

Fabric Pumpkin
You can use a sewing machine if you have one, or just a simple needle and thread for this beginner-friendly fabric pumpkin craft.
Also, you get to use a hot glue gun for the details, which is always so fun for me. Using a hot glue gun makes me feel like a true crafty queen.
