It’s rare for a story to render us speechless, but a Texas woman just did the trick. Police in Overton arrested Angel Rupkey on September 30, 2025, in connection with an incident that reportedly took place a few days earlier. A 13-year-old girl was accidentally struck by a car at the Overton Independent School District. The child became pinned under the car, and rather than pull her out, Rupkey allegedly drove away, seriously injuring the young teen. We’re not sure in what world anyone would think that was a good idea, but Rupkey’s lucky she didn’t kill the girl.
The Overton Police Department explained in a release posted to social media that when the teen became trapped under the car on September 27, multiple adults at the scene opted not to call 911 and “attempted to free the victim themselves.” Rupkey allegedly got behind the wheel and “in an attempt to dislodge the child, intentionally drove over her a second time.” That act caused additional serious injuries.
At some point, a witness called 911, and when first responders arrived, they took the 13-year-old to a hospital via helicopter. It is unclear if the student attended school in that school district, but the district made a statement on Facebook about what happened.
“We are especially thankful for the quick response of our local first responders, and our hearts are with the young girl and her family during this very difficult time,” the message reads.
The story left the police department’s social media followers stunned. They just didn’t understand how this happened.
“Intentionally?? Am I reading this right???” one commenter asked.
“I can not believe that not one adult had enough common sense to call 911,” another shocked person wrote. “Like wth is wrong with people?”
Others had ideas of what they thought might have happened.
“I don’t think this had anything to do with ‘common sense,’ I think this had a lot more to do with what have you done that you do not want the police to come to the scene because of. The possibilities are endless and they will all come out,” the person wrote. “Think about it. Were they drinking? Were there drugs in the car? Active warrants? No one in their right mind tries to ‘un-run’ over a child.”
We have to agree. It’s unclear what the adults were thinking, but they certainly weren’t thinking clearly. Hopefully, the victim will make a full recovery both physically and emotionally. She must have been positively terrified that day.
Per police, prosecutors have charged Rupkey with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. She remains in Smith County Jail on a $150,000 bond.
