Michelle Obama Makes It Clear She’s Done With Politics for Good

Though Michelle Obama has said she’s not interested in running for president, that hasn’t stopped people from urging her to do so. In 2024, amid calls for Former President Joe Biden to drop out of the presidential race, she was even at the center of Republican conspiracy theories. At the time, Republicans like Sen. Ted Cruz feared that the former president would be replaced by Michelle, whom they saw as a serious threat.

Now, people are once again wondering if Michelle plans to run for president in the future, but she doesn’t believe that all the people urging her to run would actually vote for her.

She said the United States (unfortunately) isn’t ready for a woman to be president.

So, although people have been pushing her to run for office for some time now, she’s not convinced they would support her campaign. After all, look at what happened in the 2024 presidential election, when Former Vice President Kamala Harris lost to President Donald Trump.

“As we saw in this past election, sadly, we ain’t ready [for a woman to be president],” Michelle said during a conversation at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.

She doesn’t even want to hear about how she should run.

“That’s why I’m like, don’t even look at me about running because you all are lying,” Michelle continued. “You’re not ready for a woman. You are not. So, don’t waste my time, you know?”

Unfortunately, she argued, the country is not there yet. “We got a lot of growing up to do,” she added. “And there’s still, sadly, a lot of men who do not feel like they can be led by a woman and we saw it.”

Michelle previously said that she was not interested in running for president.

In 2018, she explained, “I’ve never had the passion for politics. I just happened to be married to somebody who has the passion for politics.”

Although many have been hoping that she’d change her mind, it doesn’t sound like Michelle would run even if she had the desire to be president.

“I think we still have growing to do in that regard, and you know, we can see how progress can be made and things can be snatched back when it comes to us owning our power as women,” she said during the recent conversation.

Sadly, lots of people believe she’s 100% correct.

Of course, we’d like to believe that a woman could run for president and win. But it obviously hasn’t happened yet, and many people on social media agreed with Michelle. “She’s right unfortunately,” one person wrote on Reddit. “So many men, even women, don’t like the idea of a woman president.”

Another person added, “She’s 100% right – America has had 2 chances to vote in a more competent female POTUS candidate and failed to do so both times (Trump vs. Hilary and Kamala vs. Trump).”

Though others added that “there is zero excuse” for the sexism, they unfortunately “don’t see it changing.” Someone else said, “Don’t waste Michelle’s time! She is sadly right about this.”
